Of course they are loud as hell
You didn't check the specs on web site before you bought 2 of them?

Noise: 52.2 dB(A)

Now you have 2, so expect something like 55 dB(A)

Man that is loud !

Good cooling starts with good design of the airflow.
I'm cooling a AMD2400+ here with 9 CFM. True, it isn't the coolest running rig, still it folds 24/7, and that is full load.

Try to cancel the order on the Vantecs. You won't be happy with them.

Mmmmm, I assume you asked me Rossco, when not, ignore this posting.

Total system cooled with 9 CFM
- 2.7 CFM extracted by the PSU
- 6.3 CFM extracted by the case fan ducted to the CPU heatsink.

While running Folding@Home (=full load to me)
Ambient 21 degrees Celcius
Case temp 25 degrees Celcius
Motherboard sensor 29 degrees Celcius
Harddisk1 32 degrees Celcius
Harddisk2 26 degrees Celcius
CPU 54 degrees Celcius

Keep in mind I spend at least 40 hours to optimize this system, and went through many experiments, taking temp./power readings all the time.

The system has 3 fans:
- 1 in the PSU, probably running @ 4.5 volts
- 1 case fan, running @ 10.5 volts
- 1 recirculating fan to cool the harddisks, running @ 5 volts

yeah i was asking you.

how loud is it? im guessing quite quiet. do u know how many db? or atleast take a guess.

for the temp/ noise ratio may not be worth it.

Hard to tell.

The Panaflo FBA08A12L1A fan is quoted to be 21 dB(A) @ 1 meter @ 12 volts.
This system a lot quieter than that (low noise) fan, having a case and all.

At night,
when the heating, fridge, ventilation and all kind of other stuff is switched off,
with the rig running, and when my ears are used to the silence,
I can't hear a difference at 8 ft distance when I switch the machine off.

By day,
it is difficult to tell if the rig is running sitting at the concole.

When I had to guess a dB(A) value for this rig @ 1 meter, I would say:

about 16 - 18 dB(A)

I can still hear it though

at night when furnace, fridge, and my old computer are ON I can hear my computer from the stairs going upstairs (my door would be open) lol. Actually i can even hear my computer when imm sitting at my old computer in the next room lol (both doors wide open).

are you the guy who u posted that link to that has a computer built into his desk?

Those 80mm Tornados are $9.99 each at NewEgg.com (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-999-612&depa=0). I always buy my stuff from them.

I suspect most of you here listen to MP3s played from your PC.
If you still want to be able to enjoy music 20 years from now, you'd better shield your ears from unnessesary noise.

To fortify my point of view I copied parts of the reviews from the Newegg site below.
Read them, it makes you smile, guaranteed.

One comment drew my attention though:

DuraMAX,10/16/2003 11:10:42 AM
When I read 84 CFM, I have to admit I was a little skeptical. After purchasing this from NEWEGG.COM and installing it, I totally love this fan. It moves enough air to keep my case temp below 25 celcius and cpu (Athlon XP 2600+ Volcano 8) at less than 42 celcius (EVEN after gaming for several hours)!

He has got the same case temperature using the Tornado, as I have using a low noise fan @ reduced voltage.
Design your airflow, and any design is impaired when you leave the case open.

However this is extreemly loud (not an exageration) to the point where it is intolerable.

GodMan,3/12/2004 5:02:07 AM
I've had this fan for I'd say maybe 7 months and holy XXX was it LOUD! My father says he can hear it in his bedroom about when his and my door are both shut. It sound like a dustbuster if you wanted to be a bit more accurate than the people that say vacuum cleaner. Remember, though, I'm talking about JUST one of these.

It gets the job done, but I'm telling you... it is EXTREMELY loud for it's size.

Brian,3/9/2004 4:57:58 PM
It is NOT as loud as a hairdryer, but still would get annoying if I had it running for a long time.

visuelz,3/9/2004 2:21:26 PM
Wow. This product blew me away like a tornado!

N/A,3/7/2004 2:23:06 PM
I really love this fan. I bought three for my workstation PC...... This thing is quite loud! However, the sound is worth it once you see the airflow. A few of my wires were moving to the air blowing in through the intakes! LOL.

CrotchCricket,2/27/2004 4:03:42 AM
Hairdryer for sure but it does the trick.

coolbluesurface,2/25/2004 7:35:21 PM
Ok, so I'd read the reviews below that this fan sounds like a hair-dryer. I thought those people must be exaggerating. And I would rather have a COOL computer than a Quiet one. So I bought **FOUR** of these things and installed into case. Let me tell you- hair dryer is not the word- try vacuum cleaner now!! LOL. I had to turn the closed-captioning on my tv because I can't hear it anymore.

Stangman,1/20/2004 12:32:02 AM
At 55db you should expect this to be loud at full speed. So you shouldn't mark down for that. However at fullspeed this thing pushes out some serious air. I'm talking about tornado force winds....ok well not really but it moves the air VERY VERY well.
I would however get a fan controller if you get this fan, because at full speed it sounds like a hair dryer.

N/A,11/16/2003 7:49:19 PM
This puppy pushes some serious air. I blows harder than a small desktop fan that I use. Hairdryer loud is not kidding. It'll cool anything off but unless you are buying it for a server in a datacenter don't bother. It's too loud for home use.

Phat Shader,10/7/2003 11:58:03 AM
Awesome fan, literally sounds like a hair dryer.

Fat Shader,10/6/2003 1:34:50 PM
This thing is seriously as loud as they say. It literally sounds like a hair dryer.

N/A,10/6/2003 8:16:09 AM
People weren't kidding when they say this fan is insanely LOUD, it sounds like a hair dryer and it blows a lot of air.

N/A,9/18/2003 9:31:46 PM
This fan is LOUD. I have never heard a louder fan, yes it is very strong and it cooled my cpu nearly 8 degrees C at full blast, but its just too noisy.

EmpireMonkey,9/15/2003 7:54:48 AM
FYI - The fan comes with two different connetions, a 4 pin connection for the power (the red and black wires) and a 3 pin connection for the speed sensor (the yellow wire). There are no power wires connected to the 3 pin connector (it has the yellow wire only). So if you want to control the speed of the fan your controller must use a 4 pin connector (controllers adjust the speed of a fan by moderating the power).

fuzz,8/23/2003 9:45:35 AM
These fans are incredible for cooling! If its cooling you want, then its cooling you get! They are amazing! There is a drawback! They are the loudest fans I've ever heard.

greybeard,7/31/2003 1:37:39 PM
Will blow itself across your desk with ease. Don't stick your finger in it. Will drive you nuts with its shrieking.

johnny06man,7/24/2003 9:59:53 AM
I bought this thing, and I thought, "Hey, it probably isn't as loud as everybody says." Boy was I wrong. After just one hour's use, I took it out of my case. It is too noisy for me.......... THIS FAN IS INSANELY LOUD! BE WARNED!

AJ,7/16/2003 7:35:45 AM
It really is powerful and will keep your case cool. BUT it IS loud! I saw the "it's loud" reviews here, and thought it couldn't be louder than my Thermaltake7, but it IS by far.
No exagerrations, here are some relative comparisons.
- Much Much Much Louder than my Thermaltake Volcano 7 (plain 7).
- Much Louder than the AC unit in my aparment.
- About as loud as a hair dryer on low/med, held with your arm completely extended.
- A little louder than one of those 3-speed oscillating fans when on med. setting (and pushes about as much air also).
- If you have a datacenter/server room with several (ie +20, desktop-ish servers, racks, and ibm aix type) boxes and the server room has its own AC, think about that kinda noise level.

Atomic Dawg,6/7/2003 2:14:33 PM
....The noise is ridiculous..... Also, this fan would be a total waste as a case fan.

N/A,6/6/2003 1:10:05 PM
well, just installed 4 in my lian-li 65-b
sounds like a table saw running in here!!!

r33p,5/27/2003 6:54:49 AM
This thing cools great. Got my 1700+ XP running as a 2600+ at 37 celcius under load (prime95) paired with a swiftech heat sink. but this is the loudest thing i have ever heard in a pc. Even with headphones on while gaming I can still hear this screaming fan.

NeoMental,5/7/2003 8:12:58 PM
THIS FAN IS VERY GOOD, SOUNDS LIKE MY WIFES HAIR DRYER, HOLY XXXX HAD TO UNPLUG IT, dont know why they rate it @ 5700rpm mine ran @6200rpm, min was 6100. Sheesh! Now i can hear (somewhat) ...

N/A,5/6/2003 1:25:46 PM
.... But make sure you dont lie to yourself because 55.2 db is LOUD..... No lie though I would compare the noise to about that of a dishwasher. Think before you buy.

Q3*Minoin*,4/14/2003 10:23:14 PM
I bought this awhile back hoping to cool down my CPU a little,It Definatly did that,32C Under Load.Got it and Hooked it up and now I have a Vacuum Cleaner On in my room 24/7.I was going deaf,so I went a bought a 92mm Enermax Fan w/ a 92mm to 60mm adapter.Ahh I can hear again....

Don't get it for HOM,3/17/2003 3:16:11 PM
NOT for HOME USE!!
Do NOT get it for HOME USE!!! This XXXX iS XXXXXXX LOUD!!

DeafOne,2/24/2003 4:34:34 PM
What? What?

Neo,2/22/2003 10:17:53 AM
Unfortunately, I have to remove it so that I may hear what is going on around me.

DeafOne,2/18/2003 10:18:21 PM
This is the most quiet fan I ever had. I can not even tell if its running, I have to look at it to make sure. Excellent fan, very quiet and moves alot of air.

!butterz*,1/25/2003 7:25:20 PM
Tis' great if your trying cool your CPU..If you trying throwing more than 1 in your case your going to go deaf..I swear my case was cooling my whole house when I started this thing up..I had 3 of em in my case and it sound like a generator..I got a noise pollution ticket from the police..Its about 60dba of noise for one fan..

oh... ok,12/17/2002 9:26:29 PM
If you don't care whether or not you can hear yourself think, then this is definitley the fan for your cpu.
.....It's just very noisey even with a restricted voltage :(. If you don't believe me try for yourself, sucker:)

N/A,11/28/2002 5:52:11 AM
I just ordered 4 of these beasts! If you want to hear a jet engine, come on over to my place!

daemoncel,11/6/2002 9:24:27 PM
... but the thing that kills this is the VOLUME, it is very loud...

ShelxCNS,8/10/2002 1:44:11 AM
At full speed this fan has got to be louder than living near an international airport terminal.

N/A,8/7/2002 1:19:33 AM
"It sounds like a vaccum cleaner inside your case", I'd have to agree that he was dead on.

N/A,8/5/2002 11:05:16 AM
as loud as my vacuum (i was on the phone and the guy asked who was vacuuming), is not worth the sound...

N/A,7/17/2002 12:40:39 PM
Blows a great deal of air but the air noise is unacceptable.....
