it will encode an avi to a vcd or svcd if you have the codec and write it to disc but a much better way to go would be to use tmpeg or better still acp as it will convert the audio as well automatically.Tmpeg will not convert the audio if it is mp3.
Nero doesn't really give the quality of finished product in my experience if you let it encode for you :D

i have just encoded a movie today using tmpg encoder, i then burnt the movie and discovered there was no audio. i would also like to know what acp stands for or where it can be obtained. i have done a search on overnet for 'acp' and on the net but no luck.

You will have to use something like VideoDud to extract the Wav out of the video file then in TMPGEnc when you open the video there is also a box underneath for the audio file.

i did say that tmpeg won't do the audio if it's mp3 (mpeg layer3) as most avis are, that's why i said to use acp as even a complete old person like myself can't get things wrong with it.
muchspl2 has a link to the whole thing on his sig. (kvcd)
Don't worry about making mistakes, we all did at one time :D

ok, i have encoded a movie using acp, it has now completed everything, there are a handful of things that it has produced, what of these or all of them do i burn onto disk to make a vcd. i suppose its just the video00.mpg, is that right, it has now become 780mb, will i need to split this beforehand. :music1:

no re-read the kvcd guide

burning:
you need nero http://www.nero.com
open nero and choose vcd in the wizard

http://www.chip-china.com/images/maindocs/zhuanti/0302/kelu04.jpg<---right in the middle
there is a option called "make standard compliant cd" YOU NEED TO UN CHECK IT
repeat, uncheck make standard compliant cd then click new
navigate to your newly created kvcd normally named "video00" in your output directory folder

i would just like to ask muchspl2 but when you use tmpg do you have to set the template option anywhere, because in your guide it doesnt show that for making a vcd ?

no not necessarily
there is a wizard that pops up
just pick vcd or svcd
pal if your in the uk, nstc if your in the us
but of coarse you can use templates and customize everything :)
hope that makes sense, I'm off to http://www.lavela.com
for some spring break action, later
