download and install bittorrent ( http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ )
now goto Suprnova ( http://www.suprnova.org/ ) and goto they're "Apps" section, then look for "Windows XP Pro SP1 Intergrated".
Download the "torrent" file off Suprnova, then when you try to open that "torrent", bittorrent runs the download. (which in this case you will be downloading "Windows XP")

good luck

Have you tried to just skip those files? I have a xp pro version that does the same thing and all works good. However I normally use the one on my XP 5in1 cd and all is good.

How do you know you both have the same ?
What files are corrupt may be quicker to replace them ?
If it was from KaZaa did you (both) use CDmage to check and repair corruption ?
Its weird how you both have the same problem is it the same downloaded file ?

I was talking to him on msn when he was trying to install, and one of the files that didnt copy was shell32.dll, that file has most of windows xp's icons in it so...yeah it wouldn't run right.

darkclown, did u try using the other cd drive you put into that computer? it might just be that drive cant read the cd properly, the one in my old computer is like that and when i have to reinstall i put my burner into the old computer. you could also try using a different brand cd-r or just put your own cd-rw drive into the other computer just to install then take it out later.

How many cycles did the memory test perform?
Is it always the same files that won't copy?
Does it start copying files and a while later give the error, or error straight away?
What exactly does the error say?
Have you performed a checkdisk? 'Thorough' mode (or whatever XP calls that)?

I'm not being an arse, here, I want to help, but you're giving out information like a car owner calling a mechanic saying "I turn the key and it's not starting, what's wrong?" It makes me feel like we're pulling teeth. :)
Golden rules... always make a note of the exact wording of any errors and BSODs (you can compare them if it happens again); give as much system info as you can; give exact information of procedures you go through up until the error, and steps taken.
This is really just like the other thread where the poster doesn't say he's hitting a key when the XP CD is in the drive but wants to know why it's in an install loop.

Don't get the hump, I'm not dissing at all.

Get CD Check (http://www.elpros.si/CDCheck/helplink.php?helpfn=purpose) and use the Check feature to see if all the files on the CD are actually readable on your drive.
If they are, swap his CD drive for a known good one and try installing again.
If they're not you're gonna need another CD, but I think they'll be OK.
