When I have enough saved up. I am very intersted in puchasing this desktop. Nothing bad about it, that I see, besides for a few flaws, like pre-installed Xp with no extra disk, no speakers or monitor.

I do not know much about parts so any comments, good or bad, would be appreciated. Right now this looks 10x better then the computer I am currently running on ;)

you can get a dell 2400 2.66Ghz P4, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 48x CD-RW Drive, and 80GB HD for $399 after Rebate with FREE Shipping
but you can build a better one for around the same and certainly less than the one you posted :D

$1000 is a bit much to pay for a desktop, 'specially since it's a buyer's market nowadays and that kind of money oughta be able to buy more "stuff" (monitor, speakers, printer). unless you're going to do a lot of 3D game-playing, audio/video editing, or anything that really pushes the system very hard, you could save a lot of money by getting a slightly slower processor. even if you do plan to do much heavy-duty stuff with the computer, a 2.6ghz comp (or "2600," the AMD equivalent) handles most things just fine... by the time 2.6ghz and 3ghz computers become obsolete, that extra 0.4ghz won't make much of a difference at all.

personally, i'd just get a slightly slower one (the very fastest models are usually terrible values, as far as bang-for-your-buck goes) and use the money i saved to get a monitor or some other gadget (digital camera, scanner, tv tuner card, whatever).

Not bad of a deal I would say...
But a geforcefx 5200 128M?
Try asking for Ti or an ATi 9600 PRO / XT

I would prefer customizing it...
Buy a cheap combo with good parts from a NON EXPENSIVE COMPUTER STORE and tell them to buy the combo deal and build it yourself, I recommend not trusting those computer sellers to assemble your part since you think they are putting new parts in?

No, they put in used parts. Ask them to assemble it yourself ;) .

If you buy it part for part, you will notice that combos are a better choice of spending money since parts such as P4 2.4 ($245 CDN) and there is a combo with all the system requirements for just ($555). So use common sense and try to be smart! Don't be scared to say what you want. They will take advantage of your computer knowledge. DEMAND WHAT YOU WANT, YOUR THE CUSTOMER!

This is my type of store, dont't worry about this store... they have a special warehouse and assemblies REAL NEW PARTS. You can tell by looking inside the computer itself. That is why you need to install windows xp by yourself. Since the hard drive has been installed freshly!

Thanks guys for your comments. I've been buying parts for this one as things are going left and right. So is it much cheaper to purchase the parts then a whole new system?

I was kinda a little iffy on buying this from a store as well, as I have heard it is better to a customized one where you can exchange new parts later on.

If buying parts cheaper is the case, can you guys recommend me the parts and where to buy them offline. As I do not like buying from online stores ;).

Also most stuff I do not how to put in myself, so I'm little nervous about that as well.

I live in the US and can not not buy parts online from other countries. I live in Pennsylvania. So anywhere near Wilkes Barre / Scranton would be good :)

funny you should say that. I went with my brother about a year ago to get his computer at a Rental store. And the proecessor they had in it was not very good, and all there computers had the same processor. I was demanding this guy to let us see better computers. He told me that was all they had, and my brother, being the idiot he is, bought the thing anyway. They charged him, as he told me, like $1600 for it, but in payments. Not sure if he was exagerating or not. To this day he still thinks he has the best computer on earth lol. The poor kid, lol.

I DON'T play modern games. I am going to use dependable parts ONLY. Reliability is paramount to my needs. These are the parts I'm considering. Pasted from my newegg wishlist. I'm on dialup. Do I need a seperate modem or does my proposed mobo have one integrated? My goal is not chase around hardware problems as on my current setup. The only hardware I'll be transfering from my old puter will be a TDK cdrw & my Altec Lansing 3 speaker system. Low cost is definite factor in these hardware picks. But also I don't want mess with this system for at least 2 years after I assemble it. I know that I'm choosing integrated video (I'm NOT a gamer). I also know that I can get a cheaper case, but I want the super reliable Antec psu. I hope to in the next 4 months purchase these parts all from newegg. Any constructive comments, welcomed. Thanks.

This is what I ended up getting & building. Except I skipped a new FDD & used my old one. Also I opted for the 80GB WD instead. Substituted the LiteOn DVD rom also. Thing runs real sweet. Had to buy a modem at Circuit City. Still about $450 out the door.
NewEgg rocks! Their customer service is the best.
If you are determined to go brick & mortar stay away from CompUSA.

Again it's finished & running very cool & silent. And I built it all myself & saved $400-$800 in the deal by doing so.
