:) Hi, last night my computer crashed or something,
and so i had to install Window XP Pro again,
then when it was done,
i found there were no previous window updates
so i had to d/l them again
but suddenly this pop up told me that i had to install a patch
(it didnt look like a windows pop up??)
Here's the pop up .....

http://cananda.250free.com/Kazaa_Lite_Forum/Step016.jpg

so i went to the website... (http://www.windows-patch.info/)

I clicked on the patch for window xp and
then the next page said i had to pay $19.95 ???????
Do i need this as part of my windows updates downloads
or is it just a scam???

Turn off Messenger, it's a useless prog.

Its a scam. People use the Messenger service to spam others. Disable the messenger service to get rid of those popups.

Start > Run > type "services.msc" (without quotes) > OK

Go down to Messenger, right click it and properties, click Stop, and set the startup type to Disabled.

It's basically useless. Always ignore those messenger pop ups. They just try to get your money.

It is not totally useless when an Administrator needs to send an alert message to all boxes on a Domain.

That is the reason M$ will not remove the messenger service from their o.s.. :)

Here (http://rileysresource.net/index.php?page=software/guides/messenger) is what I do everytime I build a comp for someone.

Good advice given here though ... never believe them pop ups .... though the irony in some can be funny. Pay to block pop ups like this!

He means that settings in the services panel were set to default, so of course messenger was enabled and still displaying ads .. so im sure it'll all good now. :)

then i want my 50£ back (with interest)

10points goes to the 10 Services that you SHOULD disable

see http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
