how do i get rid of this thing?

exactly why would you want to get rid of it, its you connection to the net

becaused you are using a usb modem and not a real ethernet modem, it has to connect through the usb hub and thus you have that little arrow on yer task bar

its not hurting anything mate just dont worry about it, or go swap your usb modem for an ethernet one

i want to get rid of it cos every say 2 days it goes then it comes back and i get cut off th net :(

@gungrave, I ask you to give better explanations of what you want and why.

Also give complete information about what hardware you have.

The last post you made is unclear as to if the "little box" is a physical item or something on you screen.

Either it thinks you've already unplugged it (though I didn't think it came up with that message) or you have accidentally brought it up by clicking in the system tray.

If it is the latter, DON'T PRESS STOP because that would indicate that you want to stop using the device. So just press CLOSE.
