well, ive been planning to build a forum, and its finally been executed. currently, the forums topic is anything (as in it has everything on it... which i dont think is good cos there are too many of those).
i was thinking maybe changing the topic of that forum to edsk/sig2dat links forum. do you think it would catch?

i mean, if not, ok, if so, maybe give me some tips?

thanks,
Rafi

p.s: mods, is it ok that i posted this thread last time i posted one asking for help on my old board, but i posted a link too... is this suitable?

Well... It seems like advertising to me. Otherwise he wouldn't have posted it in the lounge. He would have posted it in Internetworld instead.

So you think that if someone posts to mention he has a forum but doesn't have a link in the post other than in the sig then it's ok?

I can see it now. The ton of new posts that say... "I have a forum. Click the link in my sig".

And you think that's not advertising? Hmmm.

May I also point out that tralalala did ask a mods opinion in the first post.

While we are on this subject can anyone explain the logic in this rule.

You are not allowed to 'advertise' your forum in 'a' post. But you are allowed to put it in your sig. Where it appears in every post you make. :frusty:

Why not just ban it completely.

I don't know. I don't make the rules. I have only been put in a position where I am supposed to evaluate a situation and apply the rules the best I can.

As you may have noticed I haven't tried to enforce anything here. I just think that a line needs to be drawn somewhere to avoid people finding ways around the rules.

some 14 replies, and not one had an answer for my question.

anyhow, VB, i know your here to evaluate the rules, its just i didnt do any advertising... i mean, according to the first post, and that post only, can anyone even get into my forum?! the link my sig is for Jonno and Baz's forum... nothing to do with me...

so VB, i think you may have mistaken my question to an advertisement for my forum... but no, i was asking for public opinion: if the public think that a verifeids forum is better than a regular "everything included" forum.

If you wanna get a high traffic board nowadays you need a nice ul bandwith and some time to make a bittorrent tracker, a forum with torrents and some great new movies, games, music and some pr0n...
you will have >50k visitors in no time! Check torrentbits, for prove.. :P

ai, oh... mmm... i read back... but must have missed the free forums then?!
Well if your gonna use IPB i'm sure it's not allowed according to their rules.
But i know plenty that do it anyway. Like Phoenix.... (don't have the url here with me now...). ;) But that's entirely up to you. Oh ofcourse you can check other forum-software, don't know if there is any that hasn't got rules about the illegal stuff. But is posting torrents illegal, guess that depends on the country you live and the law over there... ;)

but anyways it was just an idea, it's up to you to decide what you use and do with a forum :)
