Why Close The Thread About Billy Dean?

Just seems to be another example of censorship. This is a forum for fun, but the people we effect are real.

Permanent banning is for people who are intent on spamming the board (to promote another site) or whose primary objective is to anger members, promote kiddie porn, or attack the board itself (hacking).

Billy on the otherhand, did not come here to do any of those things and his trouble boils down to a non-constructive manner of conveying his thoughts when irritated. I have personally been very close to blowing my top from time to time and often the PM's Mods receive are far different from the original text ( ).

The result has been a rather spectacular relationship with most mods, who when treated politely, often start going out of their way to be helpful.

I have just learned to adapt to my own temperment and cool down a bit. I try to remember that overall I am here to have fun, but when people censor me or interfer with my fun by intrusive moderating, I object to the principle (not the actaul loss of a post) and get quite angry.

I think with Billy, he got off to a rough start with some Mods and it spiraled over time, to a point where he was hounded and harassed.

Before I derail myself in a coffee induced ramble, I want to state clearly that Billy is different from other BANNED members in that he does not visit to bring harm to the board, he wants to have fun just like the rest of us.

As it has turned out, his temper and the tempers of the mods reached a point where a time out was needed.

I think it is time to see who the "MEN" are around here? Who can erase past grudges and move forward.

I don't think Billy wants to return here a muted version of his former self nor to kiss up to any Mod, and he shouldn't, but perhaps he will change the manner of his posting to help keep this board fun and exciting.


Since I consider myself a part of this board and I am for having him back, as are the others on this thread, perhaps a poll is needed to see who really doesn't want him back. If the board members don't want him here, then the ban is a good idea. If the do want him here, how can you be looking out for the best interest of the board by banning him?

I never wanted him banned. I've had little spats with him myself but I have thick skin and am time enough for ole Billy. I just tell him to STFU!!!

Yeah it seems to be quite an administration failure by banning billy dean. They know they made a bad decision, so they try to cover up how pissed the community is.

Hobbes, I don't think there should ever be polls concerning individual members, though I would like to see Billy-Dean reinstated. Not that I agreed with all Rikk's views, on the contrary.

It's spring here in Europe and autumn in Australia, so come on 7thE, please consider removing that ban...

It doesn't really matter whether you liked Billy or he annoyed the crap out of you, you have to admit he made things lively in here.

Why is is that the powers that be on this forum only seem to remember the anger? Do they forget that he also made some intelligent, thought provoking posts, and helped more than a few members in other worlds.

As far as closing threads on this subject, I agree with hobbes, it's just censorship.

I've seen him in action away from this forum and he is funny, helpful and friendly.

I am proud to have him as a friend and think this board is sadly lacking without him.

Just to let you know, i didn&#39;t close that thread ;) Your question in my direction is not right in that case. But i will ask if you read back all my previous answers in that other topic again&#33; If you read you see all the answers in there. Thing is that most people that doesn&#39;t seem to get over it, and keep posting in here are regulars from Billys forum, some people i like and respect a lot. And it&#39;s their freedom to do so but again we ain&#39;t gonna change our point of view. Again we made the decission for banning after big debates, with the best interest of the board. And as you probably do understand, we can&#39;t please everyone. Therefor an on going debate about this is useless and probably the rason it was closed. If you don&#39;t agree just pm an admin about it.

You seem to forget that we mods are just members as you all are, if this forum is for fun why exclude us mods? We are people too, why should we be excluded from what you think is the right for the forum??? Ever thought of that.

I hav&#39;nt been reading all this about Rikk&#39;s ban so this might have already been answered but would&#39;nt it close the case if one of the staff would just say he&#39; either being let back in on a certain date or he&#39;s banned for life?

So the simple question is

Will Rikk be allowed back in?

And a one word answer will finish the discussion :)

but thanks for taking time to post that Sheila, yes we do take everything serious. Believe me if i say there was never a debate or effort and time we mods spent as on the case of Billy Dean. The outcome isn&#39;t satifying for all, and therefor we get the blaims, i understand that. But that&#39;s part of being a mod i guess. Part of making and enforcing some decissions, just like irl.... ;)

I&#39;ve been reading all this over the past couple of days and am still rather bemused by it all.

Jetje, with all due respect and all bullshit aside... lets cut the crap and get to the point.

In a conversation between BD and Marc which was posted in this forum it clearly states... and I do mean clearly... that the ban was for a 1 (ONE) month period.

Now it doesn&#39;t really matter how you try to justify it, and believe me I can see you&#39;re trying your hardest, with absolutely NO support from your fellow mods of course, but you guys are looking like the biggest bunch of hypocrites in any forum I&#39;ve ever been to.

It seems you are prepared to "move the goalposts" just because it suits yourself. It also takes away any creedence to anything in the past or in future that comes from the tips of your (collectively ALL mods and Admin) fingertips regarding anything.

You don&#39;t want to be seen as "Aussie bashers", but you seem to have a penchant for referring to it. I&#39;ve seen conspiracy theories thrown around, that WE from THAT forum dare to post within these "hallowed" forums. l don&#39;t know if Jetje is doing this on purpose, or if he just doesn&#39;t understand, but he is putting things in the wrong order and coming up with the wrong answer. l would have to guess that he does it on purpose, because so many people have pointed out his mistake, that he must have realised by now.

So just for Jetje this is the order of things.[1] The mods had a meeting and decided to ban him.
[2] Billy posted his farewell thread believing he was about to be banned, as 7th mentioned in his PM.
[3] 7th and Billy talked on MSN, where 7th told him he was not banning him for good, just a month.
[4] That month is now up, and Billy is still banned.We want to know why that pledge has been broken. We are not interested in mod chats, only the promise that was made to a member.

7th made the promise, 7th should answer, in here, to everyone. And yes, l have PM&#39;d him.

PS. If you really want to know what Billy thinks, go over to his forum and ask him, don&#39;t guess, you know where it is, you&#39;ve been there enough times.

Personally I find that a little sad as Rikk did start some interesting stuff, but atm I think there are worse people on this board who are actually looking for fights and trolling to their hearts content.

Things happened as they happened. It was not one person that decided but there was a voting by all team members, the fairest way we can do it on this forum. The result was to ban Billy.

You&#39;re either willing to accept actions as part of "the team", Jetje, or you aren&#39;t. You don&#39;t spout the unified approach in one post, and then distance yourself from your team members&#39; actions in another. That&#39;s just not cricket, mate.

That was a decision that was made on the fly and that half of us didn&#39;t even know about, because many of us didn&#39;t read through that entire transcript. So no, we can&#39;t answer to whether this was temporary or permanent, because some of us are still confused as to which it was, and are still trying to find that out.

As for the reason the thread was closed, I have no idea who closed it, and wouldn&#39;t have done so myself.

For a group that is so down on this board, it&#39;s "staff" and it&#39;s members, you lot sure do a lot of pissing and moaning about it. If you don&#39;t care, why waste your time?

Sorry but this is getting a little extreme. We dont segregate you as "the aussies". If anything, you bring it up. Im not sure why you seem to feel like you are being persecuted as a group, but over the internet tbh I and im sure most members of this forum dont care where your from. It doesnt matter.

I also think its a bit rich that you only seem to reply in threads about Billy Dean. Do you even use the forum anymore?

Jetje is also being (IMO) unfairly treated. He is attempting to answer your questions but is getting flamed. As i understand it, banning Billy Dean was a group discussion, not just Jetjes, so can we please act civilised and not work in little gangs?

All IMO of course, flame me all you want, because this discussion is getting very old. Billy Dean as far as I can see was banned for a month, and hasnt come back. Has he attempted to PM a mod or admin about it, requesting his return?

As far as censorship goes, this board IS the most liberal on the web. You try bringing up filesharing or p2p in post other forums and you most likely wont even receive a warning, just a quick ban. Did anyone bother to PM a mod asking them to consider re-opening the topic first before denouncing them publicly?
