The update has been around since Dec. 2002.

Maybe you let it automatically update before without realizing it.

nope, when i do reinstalls i always disconnect my network cable to prevent hacks and viruses such as that blaster virus, first i do all the performance tweaks which include turning off automatic updates, then i install sp1 which i have on a cd...then i hook up the internet and download any updates released after sp1. i never install the driver updates because they are always old versions of my hardware drivers and i like having the latest versions...and ive never noticed the cpu update before.

Could it be that the CPU driver update is included with SP1?

Because I remember seeing that update a looong time ago.

Don't think so...I've recently done a format and reinstall of XP Home, installed SP1 and that particular CPU update is still showing up wt the windows update site...

i guess they stopped including it in SP2 or maybe it just isnt needed...
