I am going to be putting together a system for my mechanic, so far I have selected a 2500+ mobile (should overclock to 2400 MHz no prob)

The goal is to be cheap, but good. I am buying him the CPU and mobo, and I gave him my old 9500 non-pro and CD drive. I am going to get him a harddrive at a rebate sale this weekend.

Hmmm....its an Antec, so it should be ok, 300w is a little low for an overclocking machine but it should be ok.

Don't get the mobile version if the 2500+.

Get the Barton.

As for the power supply... Yes, it's ok but it depends on how many other things you want to add to the system. I would suggest to go with the Antec 380 True.

I already ordered it and I ordered the 2500+ non mobile because it costs $20 more and I am trying to keep this system cheap. The mobile would be better for overclocking because they are the "cream of the 2500+ crop" due to their low voltage and temperatures. Also, the mobiles come without a multplier lock.

The mobile version uses 266 MHz Front Side Bus whereas the non mobile one is rated 333 MHz and can easily be run at 400 MHz FSB.

Also check those prices.

The Mobile one in your link is $93 OEM without cooler and a very short warranty.
The non mobile in my link is $81 Retail box with cooler and 3 year warranty.

AMD CPUs



Overclocked Athlon XP-M chips have become all the rage recently; the already low voltage and no multiplier lock allow die hard overclockers to pull 2.5GHz (and much more) out of a processor that normally runs at 1.8GHz. The Mobile Bartons force you to pay an extra $20 premium, but if overclocking is your thing, you are essentially assured a good processor to do it with. We recently added a complete lineup of mobile Athlons to our price engine.

The non mobile overclocks easily to 3200+ with 400MHz FSB.

<2500 MHz does not equal <2200 MHz.

There is over a 13% increase potentially avilable in the mobile versions.

And what good is a warrany in the first place? We are overlclocking here, right?

I actually bought the 2500+ non mobile anyways. I was just trying to make the point that the mobile versions might be better overclockers.

Ok but you cannot run the 266MHz FSB of the mobile at 400MHz like the non mobile one.

I don&#39;t know where you find your information, my friend. As it is a pain to correct you, I shall provide a data link:

First up are the Voltage tests. As we mentioned earlier the XP-M (indicated in green on the chart) starts at a Vcore of 1.45. When we apply the common overclock of 11x200 for 2.2 you can see we are able to run at 1.60 on the XP-M but need to run 1.70 to remain stable* on the XP. Next we ramp up to 2.4 gig at 12 x 200, now the spread widens and we need a Vcore 1.925 compared to 1.75 on the XP-M; the Mobile Barton is starting to show it&#39;s worth. The final test here in comparison ends at 2.5 gig because that is all I was willing to push the XP to. I&#39;m sure you&#39;ll understand why when you see in order to get 2.5 gig (12.5 x 200) I had to really stretch out the Vcore to a scary 2.15 while still on air cooling. Notice the XP-M comes in nicely at 1.875, meaning there is still some head room and we&#39;ll get to that later when we push into areas where the XP dare not tread.
