I just put windows xp pro on a computer with these specs
40 gig h.d.
160 gig h.d.
cd-rom
memorex cdrw 48X24X48
radeon 7000
amd duron 1.4 ghz
k7ta-h mobo
256 mb ram
big fan
case with light
300 psu
i put xp pro on it and iit didnt copy some files, so last night i copied over these files compstui.dll, jgsd400.dll, shlwapi.dll, dxdiag.exe, now i start up all i have is a background but no icons or start button at bottom, how can this be fix if possible?
thanx DarkClown12
I would first Rebuild Your Icon Cache
(i use this to do it- just use the demo- beeicons.com
if that dont work
then you may have a corrupt shell32.dll (all windows icons) and explorer.exe (startmenu icon)
u can find them here
c:\windows\system32\SHELL32.dll
c:\windows\explorer.exe
you may have to replace them with "correct" versions
its a little bit of as process to swap them-just try the rebuild icon cache first
hope for some other answers
if not, reply, and i can help you with swapping

ok ight i will demo
just reread your post
its probably most definetly the shlwapi.dll - heres a link to a fresh version of it
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shlwapi
By the way
dxdiag.exe: i suggest u remove it again - and freshly install directx 9 from microsoft
DarkClown12

which u want me to try? the file or what?
heres direct link
put in C:\WINDOWS\system32
and in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
(if u cant see the dllcache folder-open explorer-tools-folderoptions-view-unmark "hide protected system files"
http://www.dll-files.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/d...e=shlwapi.zip== (http://www.dll-files.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/dll-files/topdown/download.pl?file=shlwapi.zip==)
if that dont work get explorer.exe and shell32.dll from the same site
(but they will be protected by windows so you have to disable windows file protection-using litepc- http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html
just run the prog-turn off file protection-reboot- delete explorer.exe and shell32.dll from system32 and the DLLCACHE and put in the clean ones.
reboot
hopefully its fixed then
turn on file protection thru xplite program
finish

Ok i posted at tweakxp, wantn on reponses and also id for otha 1
None of this would have happened if you had installed a GoodClean XP
so if the following doesnt work
get a good Clean version of XP
I suggest waiting for answers from the other forums before doing this
download xplite here
http://www.litepc.com/getxplite.html
get shlwapi.dll here
http://www.dll-files.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/d...e=shlwapi.zip==
get shell32.dll here
http://www.dll-files.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/d...e=shell32.zip== (http://www.dll-files.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/dll-files/topdown/download.pl?file=shell32.zip==)
get explorer.exe here
http://www.yousendit.com/download.aspx?fil...4C05B190C965D24 (http://www.yousendit.com/download.aspx?fileid=DBFAD503E12562C894C05B190C965D24)
Ok
Xplite
extract it-runit-
on windows file protection the 2nd page
clik "turn off"
reboot
open explorer-tools-folderoptions-view-unmark "hide protected system files"
(this so you can see the DLLCACHE folder)
now COPY all 3 files the 2 .dlls and explorer.exe
and put them and replace the originals
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
Then do the same in with the 2 .dlls in
C:\WINDOWS\system32
Then replace the Explorer.exe
inC:\WINDOWS
if it wont let you replace
then
try to delete the originals and then replace-
if still not youll have to work in safe mode.
Reboot
Hopefully all your icons are back -maybe rebuild icon cache again in BeeIcons.
If it doesnt work - dont worry this is safe -no harm done.
open explorer-tools-folderoptions-view-MARK "hide protected system files"
then
in xplite-Turn ON windows file protection
reboot
if it dont work-check the other forums-if not Reinstall with a better version of XP

Try Style Xp (http://www.tgtsoft.com/download.php).

lol, hes done a fresh install like 10 times before now, and has also tried upgrading from windows 2000 which also had some problems with drivers.
and his problem isnt that he doesnt have icons its that there is no startmenu\taskbar etc. loading either which is why i though it had something to do with explorer.exe. but i dunno.

With the original problem you coulda just clicked Start, Run and typed sfc /scannow.
Why do people in here so quickly say "reinstall windows" for the slightest fucking thing?
Never mind.

Didn't see it posted here so I assume you either PMed or know him personally.
So it restored all the original files but didn't fix it, yet the disc installs fine on another system?
Perhaps when XP installed it configured itself to do without the files that weren't there and doesn't know they're there now?
