View Full Version : How Do You Organize Your Music?

- Nightmare -
03-28-2004, 05:52 AM
I have them in different folders. Like for my Final Fantasy soundtracks, they each have their own dedicated folder.

So how do you organize your tunes? Do you put them in different folders or just leave em' in your shared folder?

I just leave them all in one folder. I would organize my music, but I'm too lazy, I just make myself Winamp Playlists. :D

each album is in its own folder inside that artists folder,
complete with album art, winamp playlist, and reviews or notes on release.

:( I do have a few albums with no album art or specific date, but I do my best at researching them.

The music player I use seperates all my songs by album, group and shows album cover art next to the track.
Also have the option to select by genre, but been to lazy to organize them that way.

I organise with my brain

For mp3s I seperate songs by artist so I can just pull out the folder and listen to whatever I want.
For CDs I stack them up by whatever I've been in the mood for most at a given moment.

Being a SS user I try to have all my music organised very neatly.

I have 3 main folders
Full Albums
Movies OST's
Various

The Full Albums folder is full of folders with the Artist or Band Name, which in turn has an individual folder for every album I have under that artist or band.

Movie OST's is exactly what it says its full of folders named for example like so "Smallville Soundtrack (OST)"

The Various folder is just random tracks which I like.

All my full albums and OST's should have an AMG review as well as a folder.jpg which contains the album cover only.

i have one big folder with everything named nicely. and if i have a whole album downloaded it'll be in a folder, in the folder with everything.

one day i really need to go back through and strictly re-name everything. :music1:

Actually i think its you that have a bad music taste. i agree rock [especially punk rock] is just a bunch of wanna be's who put random shit together to just get some publicity, and just wanna get some attention. I agree that there are some rock stars who put some good work into their music, such as linkin park because they ACTUALLY put their mind into it, and spend a good time writing their song. PS , Eminem R0ck5, and Dre, Tupac, Etc.!!!!

If rap rawk your sawks and rock is crap without the rock, I would suggest you wash your socks....

Both you and formula1 obviously has no idea what rock and roll is about.... most of the ideas behind rap/hip-hop music comes from rock... the contraversy and all that shit... only thing is back in the dawn of rock the contraversy was made by real people with real opinions, theese days it's just a concept those damned hop-hippers use to sell more records...

Now to the actual question I sort my files like this:

D:\Music\Full Albums\Artist\[year] Album (bps)\

Rawk and Rawl

I could write a lot of stuff about Limpin Fart but i wont...

Why dont we talk about whats Good Music out there instead of dissing ppl based on
what they like?

Well, i guess these kinda threads have some sorta entertaining value,
sure made me laugh but not really for the reasons the author expected.

:D Yeah right. Linkin Park are just a bunch of screaming EMO fags with an electric guitar.

And the way Arm organises his albums is has the name of every artist and album in a folder called mp3 albums.

Great thread, but I wish some of you would stick to the subject.

I have one music folder with a sub folder for each letter of the alphabet so The Rolling Stones go in T, Cliff Richard goes in C, Eminem goes in E, Beyonce goes in B, Dr Hook goes in D. (note my wide tastes !)

I then backup each folder up to a CDR-W every few months as a precaution.

Some letters of the alphabet have to have more than one folder.

I then keep a list of the songs I have in an Access Database that I wrote, so that I can enter details of songs from AMG and then I can see which tracks I need to complete various albums.

I then make up playlists in Foobar (used to use Winamp) of music I like, eg easy listening rock, rock classics, heavy metal, blues, glassical guitar etc etc, so that I can play some music to suit my moods.

I, like one guy above also like to get an AMG biograhy and album reviews, but it is impossible to get all the ones you want or you would have to do it full time !

I can see why some people buy the real CD's there is less work !

I have 14 "Genre Folders" in my MP3s folder.

A rap folder, rock folder, videogame music folder, funny mp3s, anime music,etc...

These folders include sub folders.

For example, in my anime music folder, I have a Neon Genesis Evangelion folder, and instead of sorting the songs by album, I have every song for the series all in one folder.

Instead of the file looking like "Neon Gensis Evangelion- 01.- Rei 1
I make it look like this "NGE-Rei 1"
So, I organize my crap like that.

I could go on and on, but it'll take a while to explain how I organize all my mp3s....I wouldnt want to disclose that kind of info here anyway....

Basically, I make it so organized, that the folders are easy to navigate through.

Thats the easiest way i have found to organize my music.

I've got two Music folders (due to hard drive size constraints). The first (main) folder is 77.8GB.

It's organised thus:

Music\0-M\Artist - Album Name and \N-Z\Artist - Album Name

The second folder is smaller (25GB) and is organised in exactly the same was as above :)

Using Orange for teh database, which dont get updated too often,
I dont DL so much music anymore, got pretty much what i need.

I got several HD's in 3 PC's full of stuff, not so well organized.
My shares are a little mess also, but im trying to keep them
as teh norm is in SS.

Im lazy and maybe someday i buy teh dvd-burner and
then maybe organise teh stuff better.

Maybe Babe.

I have all my music on a 1TB HD. I have folders for about 70 categories, then I have subcategories in some folders (not by genre, but by label for instance). I have two main folders: burned data and unburned. This way I always have my newer downloads in a separate folder.

I name my album folders all in the same manner: "Artist - year - Album", so I can quickly scan my music database for the album I want. VA (Various Artists, compilations) albums are named VA - Release name (year). It takes a bit of time to do it this way, but now I have a well organized collection, which is really necessary if you have a lot of music.

I rarely use any media library software, because I find my system handier to browse. No problem with 'conflicting' ID3 tags, eg. albums from one artist spread over a bunch of tags (AC/DC, AC-DC, ACDC, AC DC, ...) or various artists compilation albums in the albums list.
