buy one of these (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-122-004&depa=0). they work nice and they cool the drive down, plus you can swap the drive with your friends if they have the same set up. makes it nice for music/movie swaps. :D

its the HDD temp. i have a 120gb maxtor in it, and it reads about 32C all the time.

kaiweiler
03-29-2004, 02:44 AM
that's not bad...any idea what the temp would be without the other thing?
i would put my maxtor 80gb in it, so that would be even lower i bet

the temps get even lower than that when i have my tornado fans running (they are not running right now) and 80 gb drive should be lower in temp, plus, these thing look really cool. ill take a pic of it out of the case if you want

you say it has a spot for a 120mm fan? why not just buy a 120mm fan? its hella lot cheaper than buying that hard drive tray thing. that or you could just screw teh 80mm fan on using only one screw...

kaiweiler
03-29-2004, 03:08 AM
yeah i could...but that tray thing looks quite cool, and you can take it places lol
i may just buy a 120mm, i gotta find a quiet one though

you could always just buy one of the coolers on this page (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Category/category_slc.asp?CatId=495) it doesnt look as good as microsouls but it is a lot cheaper...

kaiweiler
03-29-2004, 03:23 PM
Those look decent...
this (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=310675&Sku=T925-1046&CatId=495) one looks the best to me...fastest fan rpm, but also fairly quiet at 23 dba
also only 40 bucks or so, not that bad....
Here it is on the Thermaltake site.... (http://www.thermaltake.com/accessories/hardcano/a1278.htm)
What do you guys think? looks decent to me

Don't spend so much money on that. Its a small fan that will only move a small amount of air and be noisy.

I have holes there for a 120mm
Go and buy a 120mm fan. A lot less expensive and much more effective. You can also slow it down to a whisper.

kaiweiler
03-29-2004, 04:02 PM
Alright, I think I may...
If you screw on an 80mm fan into just one hole of a 120mm spot, wouldn't there be a lot of vibration as it is not totally secure?
because if not i will just do that, I could screw one into one of the top holes, and one into one of the bottom holes, as I have two extra 80mm fans...
woould this be overkill? would just one 80mm cool it enough?
I don't really wanna spend 25 bucks on just a 120mm fan...

Virtualbody1234
03-29-2004, 06:10 PM
Try with one. Are you really having overheating problems with the drive?

kaiweiler
03-29-2004, 09:18 PM
I'll give it a try
my HD isn't fully overheating, but when i power off and feel it it is quite hot
and since I have 2 extra 80mm fans sittin around i figure that'd be the best component to use them on

then go ahead and do it. try two fans and if it is too loud just use teh one.

btw, how are your cpu temps doing? did u get them lower with that gigabyte cooler?

edit: where can i check my hard drive temps? i dont think mine has a sensor, or is there some special driver i need for the drive? i think mine would be really low because i have my bottom front exhaust blowing right onto it and it feels cool too.

Rossco,

Aida32 >> Storage >> Smart will give you your HD temps,
and MBM5 will give them on your taskbar, like here

You will really have to try to buy a HD without SMART nowadays,
so your next one probably will have SMART......

I took off the gigabyte cooler and removed all the old AS5 on it, and cleaned it all up, then put on a thinner layer of AS% and remounted it, much better!

well my temps are really high, and ive tried everything to fix it. lots more fans, had 2 mounted on heatsync once, lots of as5, normal amount, different heatsyncs, nothing got it much lower.

my vcore is at 1.74v, which i dont think is normal for my processor, but it may be...

now i think maybe its because i have too much as5. how little did u put on? was it a really little amount or what? lol, u probably wont tell me now lol.

I just put a very very thin layer on it, I just a matchead size drop in the middle of the chip and spread it over with a credit card in a really thin layer, so that you can almost see the chip through it....
