i need some suggestions. my old one (the 1 i got at bestbuy for free on blackfriday 2 years ago) is screwing up. it's not reading or burning anything.
here's my problem:
on newegg, more ppl voted for the lite-on cdrw.
which of these is the best:
1. sony
2. plextor
3. lite-on
4. samsung

i've heard of lite-on, but not sure if they're good or not. they seem to be very popular on newegg. give some suggestions

i'm looking for something around $30

Lite-on is right on...

But, brand truly doesn't matter 'cause it is probably manufactured by another company anyways. I mean, it's a crapshoot as far as quality goes. At least that's been my experience when I worked in the service/repair industry for 7 years.

hope that helps a bit...

peace.

i hear lite-on is good. the rest are all good companies, might wanna add LG into it they are also good. although i hear sony's are loud, maybe not all.

imo, the name brand ones arent dont last much longer than the noname ones...

my old computer has a goldstar brand one in it which has been fine for 5 years...my computer is using a cheapo cd-rw which i got about 3 or 4 years ago and its been fine too. but my friend had a LG drive which died after about 1 year, maybe 2, but they were happy to replace it WITH A BETTER DRIVE. before he had i think a 20x10x32x but they replaced it with a 32x20x40x. and paid the shipping.

i wouldnt really worry about which will last longer cause theyre all around teh same, but try to get one with great tech support like LG has!

Lite-on
LG

both very good.

But if you're in the market to buy a burner now then why not get a DVD burner?

And just one other thing... abu, please try to use better language around here. See the topic title and first post? I think you could show a bit of class by avoiding that.

Plextor (http://shop.ily.com/P_1048.htm). 'Nuff said. It's not the cheapest, but it's the absolute best. Sony (http://us-depot.com/frshso52idei.html) is a good alternative.

if u mods allowed icons in the title and subtitle of the threads, there would be no need to swear to show that i'm pissed my god damn fucking burner won't burn shit! (notice the good use of icons there, but i can't do that with the title -sigh-) i really need it to burn something rite now. damn! i just picked up a microcenter add, and they have this "no name" cdrw thing for $17 after rebate. since the chances of any of these brands lasting more than a generic is slim, i think i'll just spend as little as i can.

and @ vb, to answer ur q bout the reason i'm gettin this and not a dvd burner:
1. they're expensive
2. i don't want to pay $.5 to $1 for a dvd
3. i don't have anything to burn
4. i don't have a console with a mod chip
5. i can play all my movies through tv out to my tv.
6. i'm tired. it's 2 am over here. i just got back from a friend's "party" thing. i'm going to bed.

Yeah but 4.7 gigs is a lot of data. How many blank CDs can you buy for $.5 to $1?

And thanks for caring about my comments about showing some class around here. <_<

i get all my cdr's for free on black friday. i buy a couple 100 cdr stacks, and it'll last me till at least the next year.

and at the other dude, all the hundred's of $ i spend i get my $ back after I sell all my shit. so far, i've made $20 profit even after my upgrades and stuff.

btw, i just checked the microcenter ad agian, and the ad is overdue. those prices were effective till mar 14. :cry1:. oh well, i'll be buying one from newegg then

Well with Dual Layer DVD very close, and bluray sometime next year or so DVD burners are going to drop hella far, therefore making CD burners obsolete. Since dual layer is a month away, think you could wait that long without a burner drive?

abu_has_the_power
03-31-2004, 07:50 PM
how low will dvd burners go? they're $100 now (for usuable ones). besides, double layer won't come out till later this year. and i have a lot o shit to burn before then.
someone find me like a no name brand burner for cheap. cuz i really don't need something to last forever

james_bond_rulez
03-31-2004, 08:01 PM
i have a pioneer 8x8 dvr-a07u dvd+-R/RW writer internal drive

could somebody tell me if it can burn double layered dvd disks?

It cannot... It can probably burn on the first layer of Dual media though.

The first dual burners are only going to be 2.4x speed for the second layer (or both?) so I've heard.

so i'll need a new burner when the double layer media comes out? <_<

Thats the way it goes.

You'll also need a new lighter when the old one runs out of fuel.
