When i adjust the volume up or down on my speakers the speakers have static in them and i was wondering is it the speakers going bad, or maybe a bad part on my mobo? Could it be i need new speakers and maybe a sound card? and if i do what do you all recommend?

The best thing to do is switch of your speakers hold the knob firm and keep turning it fully one way then other, quickly and firmly.
This will fix the problem, you may have to do this a few times.
If it persists you will have to replce the knob, or get new speakers.
Hope of some help

If you are talking about using the knob on your speakers then Celebs is right, it is caused by dust getting behind your knob. This is nothing to go with being hygenic, it is often caused by poor quality equipment with tiny bits breaking off inside.
