hey, my PS2 has the network adaptor so when I want to reset it I have ot hold teh reset button...then it goes to 'standby mode'. When it is in this mode the lights turn off and the status button goes to red, the fan and cd also stop spinning.

I was wondering if it is safe to leave it in this mode all of the time...as in, when I am done playing a game I will hold the reset button and it will switch to standby and I leave it like this until next time I am playing. I want to do this becuase it is really annoying having to reach nehind the PS2 to flick that power switch.

Don't see why not.

You leave your PC on 24/7 don't you?

actually i dont lol...but i found a fix for the button being all teh way under my desk, i made a switch for it ontop of my desk :)

anyways, you sure it will be ok? cause since the fan stops moving im afraid of it overheating (not sure if the cpu keeps going in standby)

When the PS2 is on stand-by it's not working, so it will not overheat

Think about it this way, do you leave your TV on stand-by? Or your Stereo?

no  but they dont need fans to cool them, and they also dont have switches on the back of them <_< ps2 was badly designed imo.

My PS2 has been on standby from the day I got it I've had it for a while cause when I got it they cost £300, I've never had problems leaving it on standby.

it shouldn't overheat because the only thing that's running in standby mode is the little red LED - the reason you shouldn't leave it on standby is because it wastes electricity

It uses very little power on standby, however it has been proven that leaving some tv's on for long periods of time can cause fire, this may or may not be the same for Ps2's

Acually leaving the ps2 on standby has been known to lower its life. I've talked to sony personally about this cause i've had them replace 3 ps2s and they asked if i was keeping them on standby and i said i was. So they told me to start shuting the ps2 all the way down and since then i've never had to replace a ps2 as for my PC thats on 24/7 and never a problem so i have no clue?!

hmm everyone else says its safe, but then there's this one post...im not sure who to beleive.

i think ill play it safe and just turn it off at the back, ive already voided my warranty because I took it apart (like to see how things work) so I cant get it replaced...

all my mates have PS2 (meanwhile i spend my cash on my PC, mwahah lol)

and they leave ther PS2's in standby all the time.... but the fact is they hardly ever play them any more, so everytime i go around ther and see the lil light on, im like, dude turn off your ps2, and theyre like...nah cant be bothered reaching under the tv stand...lol

IMO leave it on....how long is a PS2 suppose to last for anyway? 5 years... 10... 15? if you leave it on standby its not going to really make a difference.

by the time it fucks up you'l have a PS4..

and that guy who went thru 3 PS2's.... WTF how is it possible to go thru 3 pS2's? u must be doing sumthing wrong mate.... perhaps if you took the PS2 off the heater it might last longer.. :P jkz.

I left my old PS2 on stand by all the time and it's still working after 3 years. With my new PS2 I switch it off at the back and unplug it from the socket like it says in the maunal.
