i just thought i'd ask what you guys would recommend to a beginner looking for a midi keyboard.
are they all pretty much the same or are there a few that stand out?

Creative usually do good sound products, and most of their stuff is well made, so have a look around www.creative.com maybe?

nah , bull you dont buy a midi keyboard from a sound card maker
go to your local music store where they sell instruments
in the keyboard section they will have a range of midi keyboards to suit your needs
roland, yamaha , casio to name a few
just depends on what you want

I used to have a yamaha and it was great, never let me down but i got bored of it and sold it to my dads friend.
my aunt has a reeally sweet casio one that was pretty expensive and it has an lcd screen in the middle and it has like virtual music books or something like that. and you can save songs u make onto floppies
