Me and the g/f both recently got broadband and tried to send a file through msn messenger, it was really slow, like a 56 dial up? What's the best/fastest thing to use to send a file between two people that have broadband?

IRC seems to be the best for file transfer.
Read "Configure your network for instant messaging and file transfer (http://help.msn.com/!data/en_us/data/Messengerv61XP.its51/$content$/Messenger_PROC_RADIO_ConfigureYourNetworkForInstantMessagingAndFileTransfer.htm)" if you have a firewall active.
Badblue (http://badblue.com/) might work.

I use messenger all the time to transfer files - a 3.5 MB MP3 usually takes less then 15 seconds.
