fixes a terrible oversight on my part that made the encspot feature almost entirely useless. all crashes or weirdness involved with browsing other users who actually have encspot attributes should now be fixed (but hey, who knows). other crashes reported may now be fixed, but very possibly not. You'll have to erase your attributes.cfg again, sorry for that. I promise I'll find a way to automate that in the release version. Another modification I'm very excited about greatly improves distributed network functionality, but we won't get to see just how well until most everyone uses this or more likely a future version.

let me know how it works for you!

Its been a while since I open the SoulSeek doors... I decided to pop in this week, and I remembered why I stopped using this progie... could it be that it takes almost 10 minutes to open the program? P4 2.8ghz, 1gig of ram, blah blah blah... try loading 60,000 mp3s into it, and see if YOU can get on...there have been 3 new versions of this program since I've gone... and still, the same problem still appears... is there any hope that this problem will be corrected?

The more files you share, the longer the boot.

Mine is about 7 and a half. :P

SS has it drawbacks but for a free service it aint really that bad.
Plus, i hardly reboot it.
Only if needed.

Jibbler.......four words come to mind:

STFU

:P

Kidding...

Seriously....10 minutes - how about starting the program before you do anything else with your day...then when you return, it will be going. Really, to complain about the program after all it has given you - it's not in you character. Really catching me by surprise with your complaint.

And as for the new versions - they are Test Versions - stay with the official releases until the testing is done.

Of course I'm happy because DC++, FTPs and the Newsgroups all seem to be great resources as well - so I'm never without a source.

C'mon, it's not that bad, is it?

We want you back!

For those who are gonna install 154test3H:

And you should its awesome, has great new features and didn't notice any bugs yet!!

Download it here (http://slskboard.savagenews.com/index.php?showtopic=15105&st=255) [Second entry]

Back up your old .cfg files!

Install 154test3H

Put the back upped .cfg files back in the SS folder

Now remove attributes.cfg!

Run SoulSeek

Right under the chat window you should see text that tells you SS is now indexing your files [takes forever but it does it in the background]

When its done indexing you should be able to see the used encoders when you browse yourself and others who have this version.

Now get rid of all the Xing files ;)

Go to general options:
Tick all the checkboxes except "Await servers send of my own chat"
[if you leave it ticked you wont see blue and red text in chat, and it will give you bad lag]
Leave the rest of the checkboxes ticked.

Done!

beware of the Encoding Police :fear:

One thing I noticed with new new feature to share certain folders with everyone if you do that a person will browse your files even if their not on your list and still be able to queue up stuff that isn't shared to everyone

summerlinda
04-10-2004, 10:00 AM
Ofcourse, the folders you set to "userlist" is only available to people in your userlist, and folders you set to "everyone" are available to everyone, makes sense eh?
So Im not sure what you mean?

I think that is a fantastic feature! :)

No No what I mean is this

I am sharing only my new release material with everyone

so what happens is if somebody finds one of the albums I am sharing to Everyone that user can browse my collection and still selected albums that I have not set to Everyone

summerlinda

No, that user [that is not on your list] can only see/browse the folders you selected as "everyone"

slsk154test3i.exe

http://slskboard.savagenews.com/index.php?showtopic=15690

test3i allows you to initiate uploads to other users, and of course, accept them. by default, only people who are on your "upload permitted" list will be able to send files to you. use the file sharing configuration window to change the access level and see your upload permitted list. adding and removing users to your upload permitted list is done through the user context menu, which works from nearly everywhere. to send files to another user, use "send files" in the same user context menu. this will open a browse window of your own files, which will let send either individual files or entire folders to the selected user. this involved a lot of additions to the code, so expect problems.

from what i hear its more stable

i wouldn't be able to say anything becuase it has never crashed on me
