I'd join you Hank, but as it's a single-passenger auto, I'll have to get my own.

You'd also have to wait for one to come available; they don't make them anymore.

It's a disgusting monstrosity. It's also incredibly dangerous, there's no such thing as a "small crash" in a hummer. Run into someone in one of those and you've just killed a family. I hope you feel happy.

A small(ish) McLaren F1 video, here (http://www.arap78.dsl.pipex.com/McLaren.avi). The commentary is, of course, incorrect as the McLaren F1 has no forced induction, so you cannot "hear the turbos whistling".

The McLaren F1 develops 627bhp from a 6.1 litre naturally aspirated engine, try doing that in your mustang or corvette

The Elise is supposed to be one of the finest handling cars in the world...it's just a little over-chassised (read: under-powered (read: girly)).

Where did you hear it has bad suspension?

The McLaren F1 LM puts out 660bhp from a 6.1 litre naturally aspirated engine. Your Shelby needs a supercharger to match that specific power. The LM also only weighs 1062kg, giving a power to weight ratio of 621bhp/tonne.

Your Shelby produces 750bhp but weighs 1490kg, giving a power to weight of 'only' 503bhp/tonne.

Also, remember that the Shelby is based on a car which is nearly 40 years old, the F1 is only 12-13 years old and the technology used on the F1 is hardly dated. The only real development which has transpired since the birth of the F1 is carbon ceramic disc brakes.

In any situation, be it quarter mile strip, racing track or road driving, the McLaren F1 LM is far superior to the Shelby.

Indeeds, opinions are one thing, specs quite another :)

That's a lot more rubber in contact with the road...a lot more grip.

Personally, I've always hated so called "SUVs", largely due to the fact that they're so unsafe to other road users.
Anyway, here's (http://www.arap78.dsl.pipex.com/X5LM.avi) a short clip of a slightly tuned X5, the X5 Le Mans :)
Sorry it's so short, but I'm running out of space on the site at the moment.

here is my dream car.

http://www.lingenfelter.com/images/8420wb.JPG

Faster than a McLaren F1 LM the Lingenfelter Corvette Twin Turbo has specs such as the following

Approx Price $165,000
Horsepower 802hp @ 4600 rpm
Torque 866ft lbs @ 3600 rpm
1/4 Mile 9.2 secs @ 150mph
0-60mph 2.0 secs
Top Speed 240mph

now there has been debate over the times, but they vary by the type of tire you use, but Motor Trend gives these specs so that is what I belive. So for almost a tenth of the price you get a car that is faster and that dosent cost as much as some families income to fix. Also you dont have to send it to Britan if it ever gets broken as Jay Leno says, "Its a chevy and I can fix it with a hammer."

Also on the note of leno he owns a Enzo, McLaren and a Corvette and he drives the Corvette the most because he can fix it.

hey gen (this is not abuse!) the reason i said i liked the X5 is cos it has more sterdy feel than things like the disco or ML55...the inside design is gorgeous and the outside looks pretty slick too. never got to drive a viper tho...had a go in a bentley tho...took me a few mins to work out how to start it...bloody buttons to start a car...prefer the traditional key myself

Faster than a McLaren F1 LM the Lingenfelter Corvette Twin Turbo has specs such as the following
I've had this debate many a time...

The Lingenfelter is faster than a McLaren F1 when accelerating in a straight line (i.e. on a dragstrip).
It is NOT faster than the McLaren F1 LM in any other situation (race track, road situation, braking).

If you only want your dream car to be able to go quickly in a straight line then that's fine, but you're being a little ignorant to the full abilities of the car.

;)

edit: almost forgot. The only reason the Lingenfelter is faster than a McLaren F1 in a straight line is because it uses drag tyres. Put the F1 LM on the same tyres as the Lingenfelter and the acceleration times would be very similar. The F1 LM has a superior power to weight ratio. 621bhp/tonne for the F1 LM versus 528bhp/tonne for the Lingenfelter ;)

A short McLaren F1 clip now. It's from the Japanese program "Best Motoring" and is a 0-1000m test with a run around the oval thrown in for good measure. The driver isn't too hot on the change from 2nd to 3rd (probably due to the gear lever being on the "wrong" side for him), but the car still hits the rev limiter in 5th (equivalent to 188mph) within 19 seconds. You can see the car squatting on the run, partly due to the very soft suspension on the F1 and partly due to the acceleration :o

Video (http://www.arap78.dsl.pipex.com/F1.wmv)

Another short video from Best Motoring. Two laps of Tsukuba circuit, one warm-up lap and one timed lap. Again, the pitching of the car is very evident, but the overall lap time is stunning. Let's see a Corvette/Mustang/Shelby beat that!

p.s. Remember that this is 'only' the standard F1, not the F1 LM. The LM is more powerful, lighter, more hardly sprung and slightly shorter geared. It can still hit 100mph in second gear though :P

I got a ride in one of those a few weeks ago.
It's as cool as you'd expect but oddly, not very dramatic.
Maybe that's a testament to how good it is or maybe just a statement of how boring a supercar can be at less than 150MPH.

Nice stereo system, though.
True story.

I'm not a fan of the bit behind the door, I'll give you that.

However I like the overall shape, I've driven quality Audi's and they are excellent. And that's apparently a very good car to drive.

I'd have to make the colour uniform and then it would be ace.

I've driven an RS6 before and it was indeed orsum to the max. I'd imagine the R8 drives even better.

The one I was in was all red.
The car is amazingly tiny in person but the interior is quite spacious.
No engine noise.

Indeed they are small :earl: but as there is little wasted space perfectly adequate inside.

Here it is uniformly coloured
