Hi to all. I think that this problem can only be helped by someone else in Canada.
I live in Victoria. BC.Canada and am on cable with SHAW and I love the speeds I get. However I have just had an unpleasant letter from SHAW saying that I am using too much bandwidth. It seems that I used a total combination (U/L & D/L) of 72 GBs in the last 30 days. the D/L was only 32 GBs which was acceptable to them.
Now please can anyone tell me a solution because I have only used Bit torrent this last 30 days and I love it!

Switch provides if possible. Let you money do the talking.

If not possible, well.... you're gonna have to use less bandwith.

if they have a problem with your uploads, get netlimiter and run it while you are are using b/t , and cap the upload speeds to maybe 50k or something like that,

this will still share the stuff you have, but will keep uour isp happy

I think Delphin's suggestion is best then you can keep doing what you doing but reduce your uploads slightly to keep ISP happy. I would think that allowing upload at half your download would be okay.

Say you use Bitt for exactly 50% of the month, in a 31 day month. That means you'll be connected for exactly 15.5 days in the month. If you upload 40GB in that time, then your average upload bandwidth will have to be 31kB/sec. This doesn't seem too excessive...

How long (roughly) would you say you use Bitt in a month?

Thank you all for helping and to 4th gen. This might answer your question, this is yhe letter I received from my server SHAW.
Cheerio.

As a guideline we would expect to see a residential account like yours generating less traffic per month than our entry-level business package. Please see section 8 of our Acceptable Use Policy. (https://secure.shaw.ca/policy/Use-Policy.asp). On average we expect to see a residential account use below 30 gigs of traffic combined (upstream + downstream) in a 30 day period.

A recent report shows that, over a period of 30 days, your connection has passed just under 44 GB of information upstream (information leaving your computer) and just under 28 GB downstream (information coming into the computer). Such activities that generate large amounts of traffic can negatively impact the speed of your connection. Your connection has generated a combined 72 GB over a period of 30 days. This level of traffic cannot be accommodated on our residential service. It is important that this traffic level be brought down as soon as possible.

DU Meter (http://www.dumeter.com/)

Excellent DL/UL Meter tool that is very accurate and used by a good majority on this forum. If you're interested in keeping this software after 30 days, PM me ;)

http://www.dumeter.com/images/dulogo.gif

What is DU Meter?

DU Meter is an award winning utility from Hagel Technologies which provides an accurate account of the data which is flowing through your computer's network connection at any given moment. This readout is presented in both numerical and graphical format, in real time. DU Meter includes extensive logging facility, flexible events system, and more. It supports Windows 95/98/NT4/2000 and XP! DU Meter works with virtually all types of network connections: phone modems, DSL, cable modem, LAN, satellite, and more.

Why should you use DU Meter?

There are many reasons why you might want to monitor your network activity. Watching your data transfer rates can be very enlightening as you download a web page, email, or a software application. This will give you a much better idea of how long the operation will take. It will also let you know how efficient your Internet connection is. And it can alert you of dangerous or unexpected network activity.

If you are trying to improve your performance over the Internet and you are going to spend some time optimizing your configuration for maximum download speeds, it's critical that you accurately monitor your download speeds or data transfer rates so you can compare them at various settings.

DU Meter helps you to be protected against network threats

DU Meter can also come in very handy to monitor whether some dangerous unknown activity is occurring while you are online. How can you tell whether data is either being uploaded to or downloaded from your computer behind the scenes while you are online? You get some idea of data flow when using your browser, email or FTP program, but what happens if some unknown application has installed itself and is sending or receiving data without you knowing about it? Obviously this is NOT something you want to think about, but it happens to people every day. Also, if you are on a LAN or local network, you can immediately see if someone is accessing your computer and transferring information.

The problem of Trojans, worms and other hidden files which can raid your system completely in the background is a serious one, one that is becoming more and more common. Don't let this happen to you! DU Meter can monitor this activity for you 100% of the time and let you know if data is flowing behind your back. You can then log off from your ISP immediately and terminate the activity.

DU Meter most important features

Requires minimal screen real estate and system resources
Simple installation
Involves no changes to your Windows system files

http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/k/dontknow.gif Its kind of annoying when you pay good money to your isp to provide a service and they put limitations on its use, it should be down to them to make sure thier service has no limits and not the customer to limit thier use.

Again I wish to thank you all for helping! To Samurai, I have just d/l DU Meter and I love it, it is tucked away in a corner of my desk top and I can watch it all the time. Oh yes. I just watched the movie "The Last Samurai" Are you really dead?
It is funny though, I was on a chat line with a buddy and it read 10 kbs, I chatted with a Women and it jumped up to 100 kbs, does this mean anything?
I would like to keep it!

this is the reason i prefer netlimiter mate ,

i dont care about chat and stuff like that its of no intrest, it dont use any upload or download that matters

netlimiter allows you to control the apps that need it without bothering about the ones that dont

i have tried both and i prefer netlimiter, and you used a crack/serial for that other app , and there is one for netlimiter as well :)
