It used to burn at 40X and I was able to scale it down to lower speeds if needed but now it only says I can burn at 16X max. It is a Digital Research 40X12X48 CDRW and for some reason it doesn't recognize the speed I put in. I have been using 48X Philips CD-R80 cds and they are capable of 48X so why isn't my drive detecting that. I am using Nero 6.3.1.6

i'll try that. For some reason when I put in some of my old blank 40X philips Nero says I can burn at 40X. Is there something wrong with the 48X philips cds I got?

why would i have old 40X Philip cds that can go at 40x and then have brand new 48X Philip that can only go at 16X? That is really messed up. Did they ship the wrong type

Have you tried downloading a newer version of Nero?

Firstly he never mentioned what version he was using in the first place. Oh, if 6.2.1.6 is the latest version, why am I using 6.3.0.2?

I have noticed that several blank cd-r media companies advertise their media at higher ratings than they can burn at. One way to know for sure is to find the media that did burn at the faster rate and see if your burner will treat that media differently. I have noticed that TDK and Memorex pretty much burn at their advertised rate.

if youd actually pay attention in his first post, you would have known that what version of nero he was using, and it would have been more obvious that i made a typo :(

I've had similar problems in the past.

Try running Nero CD-DVD Speed, then reboot your pc. That cured it for me.
