I downloaded Norton ant virus and firewall yet someone keeps coming on to my computer and turning it off. I've downloaded other Norton products to replace the above and the same keeps happening.

Also i have been downloading a film and someone and suddenly my computer crashes and I lose all my film.

Is there any reliable software that has been tested? Also can I block people from attacking me, perhaps block my details or whatever?

I would be very appreciative of any help to protect my system and to know if there is a means of knowing good downloads from people who seem to use it as a means to screw up your computer??

well the first thing i would do if i where you , is do an online virus scan , cause half the time its a virus that disables nortons

Online virus scans here
House call (http://housecall.antivirus.com/)
Bit defender (http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php)

do not install anything else until you ensure you are virus free

best advice is to go out and "buy" a virus scan and firewall program.
somethings are just to important to take the risk of download it off a p2p network.

avg is very good, but there is only so much you get with a free program.
it's all about the money.

I don't know about you, but P2P hashes/torrents work great here.

you can get a copy of a brand name anti-virus or firewall off a p2p.
but, let's say i wanted to be a jerk. I upload "disabled" software that updates and appears to work but doesn't. In a week hunderds of people have the program. what better place to put a virus than in the program that people use to stop them.
