Windows Xp System Files Emergency

I solved the problem with the dsl deal on my friends computer, but now when i start the computer up for him it says the following.

STOP: C0000218 (Regitry File Failed)
Registry Can't Load Hive (File)
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\Software
or Its Log Alternative
It is corrupt, absence, or missing
Physical dump of memory.

Can someone tell me how to fix this for my friend please? All help wanted please.
