Yesterday I got an email from Universal Music asking me to complete an online survey at http://www.vice-versa.info/q/45 about music buying habits, in return for being entered in a prize draw. I can't remember exactly how they got my email address - I think it must have been ages ago when I signed up for one of their singer's email lists.

The funny thing about it is that they expect people to admit to filesharing !! It really made me laugh when I read the questions on the survey - does RIAA think we are stupid enough to admit to them that we do filesharing !! They can't even spell Morpheus or Gnutella properly in the question where they ask "Which sites do you mainly use?"

Then they have questions like "How much do you spend on music a month?" and then on the "Where do you buy music?" question they have an option for "I download it for free" !!

At first I was thinking of completing the survey saying I download all my music for free (just to annoy them) but then I thought I'd better not, or they might come round my house or use the results of the survey as another excuse to harrass filesharers. But the whole thing made me laugh anyway, and I hope it will you aswell.

I recieved a survey like that before too about downloading movies. When I chose the option that I watch movies at cinema and rent them on DVD (not download them), they told me that I did not fit into their category. :P

Receiving Radio is pretty much free, allthought im not sure if in any country one
can listen to police-radio frequencies, for example.

Its about frequencies.

When i was a kid me and a buddy of mine did a small radio that
had a mic and it could send radio wave all over, radius about a 100m i guess
So, i tuned the receiver to same frequence as the national radio sending (and our sending device)
and i could hear me buddy talking crap...

Later i heard it was illegal to do.

I think normal radio stations needs permissions to send.

If one dont have the permission, it is illegal and it is called Pirate Radio.

Im not talking about Internet Radio at all, of course. Thats a bit different ball game all together. ;)

Seems like the ppl who made the survey dont know the differences.
Well, to be honest, neither do I, atleast about the Internet Radio,
but ithink that some sorta licensing/permissions is required if one
wants to do it officially. If not, i guess you could call it Pirate....

Wait a minute Maybe they ment Private?
It was a typo? Go figure...

I mean, look at these:

Gnuetta? Morpheous? AOL? Kazaa? (where's teh Lite and ++ .?.)

Looks like a one helluva serious survey.

Download it for free, why not Donload it for fee.

No

Entrapment is getting you to do something you would not otherwise have done.

eg If they gave you the program to use, then sued you, it would be entrapment.

Hmmm, maybe we should use that defence on Sony (they make CD Burners) and Time Warner (AOL, Earthlink etc users wouldnt be downloading if they didnt sell the ISP service) ;)
