i was looking about on the pc and i found this and i want to know what it is, any one know? :rolleyes:

virtual ram.

tells windows how much HDD space to use to simulate RAM (to make sure that u always have some ram left in case ur physical RAM runs out)

I don't think this is totally correct.

XP seems to like to write to the pagefile even when there is plenty of physical RAM left unused.
Maybe it's like a dog marking it's territory...I don't claim to understand the process.

There is another thread open about this somewhere...

I have 1 gig of RAM and ,even when just webcruising, Windows will be busy writing to the pagefile.
I've run without a pagefile and with 2.5x my RAM ( apparently the recommended setting) and can't see or tell any difference at all...

:lol: none? i used to have none, but one day my friend was sleeping over and he couldnt stand it so he reenabled them all, including recycle bin, and I was too lasy to find out how to get rid of it again, so I just left the my computer, recycle bin, and mozilla icons...

How to remove Recycle Bin Icon from Desktop

If using XP Pro

Go to START > RUN

Type GPEDIT.MSC

Navagate to USER CONFIGURATION >ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES >Click on DESKTOP,

On the right hand pane find " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop " , double left click on it to ENABLE it.

Sorted&#33;

If using XP Home

Either use TweakUI or make the change manually in the registry.

Create or modify the following registry entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER&#092;Software&#092;Microsoft&#092;Windows&#092;CurrentVersion&#092;Explorer&#092;HideDesktopIcons&#092;NewStartPanel

gpedit.msc is for xp pro. for home you do teh registry hack, which clocker posted in his post.


If using XP Home
