ok....this is gonna sound real stupid, but what is the difference in a database and a spreadsheet?they looks the same to me

They should not look the same. A spreadsheet is a matrix used, generally, for calculations and mathematical solutions.
A database is used to store data in a categorical way. This enables the retrieval of such data according to your search criteria.
Google is a database. Enter what you are looking for and it will find every entry in the database that contains your search criteria.
