Recently when i click new and select background as transparent it makes the grey and white check boxs in the background but it always saves it as a white background

Any idea why, for example:

Should have a transparent background, this is the settings i had it on:

Open the file
make background transparent
you can then either

1.go to image-mode-indexed color-ok
-save as gif
or

2.file-save for the web-ok

in both ways to make the backgorund transparent
it needs to be saved as a .gif
