Problems With Sound ?

i really need to get to the bottob of this problem ,i have tried to downloadavi and divx files but they do not seem to have any sound .I have tried all the normal things ..Soundcard ,volume controls .Yet when i run them through virtualdub ,hey presto sound but with a heavy droning through the speakers ? can anyone assist

ok , the file you have maybe ac3 , but try thsi

download videolan vlc, and see if it will play

if it does you need to install an ac3 filter to hear the audio correctly, or continue to use videolan , as it rocks for most formats
