.avi File To Dvd

pse help sum1 i have downloaded a film in avi format. when playing on computer through media player it plays fine. however i want to write it to dvd i have tried tmpgenc plus but this freezes on an image at about 30% i have also tried main concept mpeg encoder but this also comes up with error report during encoding. is there any other program or any other way of doing this?? pse :helpsmile:

I haven't done too much converting, but if there were any place to find guides with links to software, it would be Doom9 (http://www.doom9.org/) and AfterDawn (http://www.afterdawn.com/).

you need to check your avi for bad frames before converting, with something like VirtualDub or DivFix

i use DVD2SVCD, and use a codec called DV codec 2.4.4 (this codec is a MUST for alot of avi files), and use TPMGENc.
open DVD2SVCD and on the encoder tab, choose TMPGNc (just explore to where the folder for tmpgnc is) then on the conversion tab, select the file you want converted, click on view frame to make sure its viewable, then click on start conversion, usually takes about 3 hours to make a dvd player compatible copy (which will be in SVCD format) hope this helps. click here (http://www.microsoulv3.com) for the codec you need. its in the files section

*edit* oh, and also make sure you have the kazaa lite codec pack installed also.
the mega codec pack will work also. either one. :)

@microsoul i actually used tempgenc but kept getting errors!

@andrewbarker i git both them at min is there a guide or anything on how to use n wot they do??? i am total noob!!

is there anyway to get the audio back in sync with a movie as i got evil dead 2 and bout half way through the aduio is faster then what the actors are, you know where the words come firts then you see the actor mouthing the words

The best place I know for info to do with converting different file formats is

For your problem I would suggest the same as some of the above, use Virtual Dub to scan for bad frames. I then choose to use TMPGEnc Plus Encoder, then TMPGEnc Author to add chapters and menus etc before burning, but there are plenty of otherchoices out there too!

cheers but i solved it by using DIVX repair prog and that got the audio back into right order
