Ok...When I turn on her Dell 2400, with onboard graphics...the windows XP home screen comes on..and shows the loading bar thing at the bottom. Once that screen goes away, NOTHING else...I can hear windows load up like the little music it plays ya know?! So its loading up, but after the windows XP screen, the monitor is just black.

I tried putting in a new Video card, but the computer wouldnt run off of it..I looked in setup options and told the video signal to be auto and all..wouldnt work.

Any help appreciated!

If your board has on board graphics, you need to disable it in the BIOS if you want to use a better graphic card.

probably a driver problem. as the computer starts up, just before the windows xp screen, tap f8 a few times till the safemode and stuff options come up. then select vga mode. if it starts up, you can then reinstall teh drivers.

bigdawg, google is your friend (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%3CWindows+root%3E%5Csystem32%5Cntoskrnl.exe&btnG=Google+Search)

in my experience googling for the exact error brings up a fix 95% of the time.

doing either on the other will constitute a *major* f__k up of your system.

in other words: get a copy of home edition :)

Well I dont know anyone that has one lol...I guess ill just reformatt it.

How would it fuck it up so bad...I would figure since home and pro are almost the same that the files would be almost the same also.

Only time I've seen this before is when the monitor refresh rate is set to a setting it can't display. If that's the case then you can sort it by booting into safe mode and changing the refresh rate to a safe setting (in the Advanced Settings bit of Display Properties).
Reboot and Robert is your mother's brother.
