I've read several posts on this subject in the forum.. if I remember correctly, the general concensus was not to try it.. your ISP will catch you.

Try this site to test the speed of your connection, works with dialup and cable.

Speed Test (http://www.broadbandreports.com/speedtests/1179661;776096;0b1791ead8e6b9c62fd5ab26b7f71bf5;2.0;nyc.speakeasy.net/1)

As for uncapping your modem it all depends on what type of modem it is and what ISP you use. Fatal Error's correct in that if you manage to uncap your modem your ISP will be notified of the change, cut you off and ban you for life, as they see it as a theft of service. Here are some websites giving more information about the technical and legal sides.

Was wondering about that myself, Comcast really irritates me sometimes.

http://www.pcpitstop.com/ has free tests for your computer and connection, they advise you what to change/add and have a connection tweak program as well.

BTW: This topic belongs in Softwareword instead of Filesharing, in my opinion. :)

I took that speed test before and got results very similar to Leech_Killer's I'd retake it and post a link but right now I'm downloading so if I did my results would be skewed.

Just like to add my few cents and thank Bender for that link he posted. Best site I have seen on the web. Very helpful and informative. Tells you step by step on how to improve your pc's performance after you let them run a test on your pc. Told me what was wrong with mine. Gave me links to other sites to download new drivers for my pc, etc. Now my computer runs like a breeze and very fast. THANKS AGAIN BENDER, YOUR THE MAN DUDE! :D

No problem, I got this URL from another member as well, that's what this forum is about. :)

BTW off topic: The adress Switeck gave, http://www.speedguide.net/, gives very good tips on tweaking Windows as well.
