Strange, I can't get to their site, either.
But, protowall works really well. Better than Peer Guardian.

The blocklist manager is cool, because it will allow you to download many blocklists (just update the server list and there will be a good number of them) and merge them and then export them into the P2P app of your choice. The ones that are alreay there are K-Lite, eMule, Protowall, ect. You can even choose to have it export to protowall on startup of the blocklist manager, so you can open it and close it and that's it.

As for another place to get them, I'm gonna have to check up on that.

Their server is down right now. And with regards to how good it is, its excellent. Much better than PG. There should be a new release out soon but def get the latest one first

Bishtawiman (http://bishtawi.owns.it/) apparently has copies of Protowall and the blocklist manager among other things.

Xero Grid

Oh, that's right. Without the site, you didn't know to install the driver. The reason why it works so well is that it's driver based so it stops bad packets before a regular program like PG would.

I haven't done this in a while, but you should to go to the program files folder and there should be driver folder. I'm not sure if you just right-click and just select install or if it's something else. There should be a read me file in there in any case.

Never could get Protowall to work. Same error as 3223. Surfed on their forum. Even asked. Like their fn talking Greek.

Hey, the site is back up (http://bluetack.co.uk/index.php)
Now, you can check for yourself how exactly to install it.

But, hey, maybe your system isn/t compatible, for whatever reason. Maybe you need to wait until the next version, but I haven't heard of many of those type of problems.

The site has been up and down all day. They don't know what is going on. Anyway here's how you install the driver.

Firstly for broadband/adsl then after for dial up. Follow it carefully. Protowall is much better than PG as it works at the driver level. When you have it working nicely, use the block list manager to download your list directly and edit it. It has about 15 source lists. When you have gone this you will find that some sites will not open as they are now blocked.

You have two choices: either turn protowall off just to get onto it, or if its a site you go on a lot, you need to create an exclusions list. I will write a guide on that later.

How to install the driver for ProtoWall:

1. Open Controll Panel

2. Select Network Connections

[img]http://hungrylilboy.4t.com/clip17.jpg' width='200' height='120' border='0' alt='click for full size view'> ('http://hungrylilboy.4t.com/clip17.jpg')

3. Select the connection that you are using.

[img]http://hungrylilboy.4t.com/clip18.jpg' width='200' height='120' border='0' alt='click for full size view'> ('http://hungrylilboy.4t.com/clip18.jpg')

There are 2 diffrent types of connections that have dirrent steps, once you install the driver on one network or dial up connection then it will install on both connections on its own.

For network connections

1.Select the connection

9. hit Close and your finished

The different Step For dial up connections, most of it is the same, just a diffrent way To Get there.

1.Select your dial up connection

i got it to start up. well i updated it and it said theres 9 known ips in 9 ranges. y only 9!?! when i upadted the guarding.p2p file it came to my desktop. how do i change where it saves it? i opened blocklist manager and it had a bunch of ips there. does it block those? how do i export those ips to PW? also does blocklist manager need to be on all the time?

Xero Grid
05-16-2004, 06:39 PM
Actually, the default location is
C:\Program Files\Dudez\ipfilter.p2p

Goto tools and then to options. You can config the locations from there and also add what servers you want to use, but you should select check new sources first.

No, the blocklist manager only needs to be opened and then export the files (if you want to export to more than one) and close it. It just makes a compiled list and overwrites whatever file is in there. The more servers you use, the more bad IPs you get, making you that much safer.

o well when i intsalled it i saved to "protowall" directory not dudez. i moved the file to the directory. then i updated but it came back to desktop. do i need to reinstall?

hungrylilboy
05-16-2004, 06:52 PM
no just change the settings.

edit. not quite sure why its saving it on ur desktop. Check in protowall for where u have ur log saved. This isnt ur block list but a log of what has been blocked. It could be this that is being saved on the desktop. I have mine being saved in simply c/. U can change this.

Then u need to go to block list manager and update ur sources

then go to options and click sources on left hand side and choose which ones u want to use.

then download the lists

add any exlusions u want

then click options and click applications and click protowall. Find the folder and then the .p2p file and click ok.

then go back to the main blm screen and go to export. And choose import to protowall

it will ask u if u want to export the list to protowall. Click ok and the list will auto be put in ur list

let me know if u want a proper guide and i will write on up later. Dont think fuck it and forget it. When u have got it sorted and working well, its better than nething else

How to configure ProtoWall

Goto file and preferences to get to the options of ProtoWall

Image Resized
[img]http://hungrylilboy.4t.com/clip2.jpg' width='200' height='120' border='0' alt='click for full size view'> ('http://hungrylilboy.4t.com/clip2.jpg')

Logging:
Log to Video: Logging to video is meaning that it will show up in the display of ProtoWall (This does not mean saving to disk or an avi file! :D )
Log to disk: This is the options as to what you would like to save to the pwconns.log
Log-O-Meter: Speaks for its self, adjust the slider over to get more connections logged

The rest as you can see will speak for its self

@3223. The log/file being saved on your desktop maybe the log of the packets blocked/allowed depending on how you set it up. This can be changed using the option in the lower left corner.

To follow, how to use Block list manager with protowall

EDIT. Question. Y can i hotlink pics in the post to my home page but if i hotlink a pic from the same site it tells me i cant do this. why?? and whats the best free site that allows image hotlinking

Only import deny rules

Ticking this option bypasses any permit rules. If you have specific IP's or IP ranges that you want to exclude (permit/allow) from being blocked, leave this option unchecked. The default setting is unchecked.

Rule Priority

Permit rules take priority over deny rules.

With this option selected, a rule that already exists in your blocklist permitting an IP or IP range to be accessed, will not be modified if you import a deny rule with the same IP or range. Instead, the deny rule will be split to continue to permit your existing rule.
