Day 2 of the E3 convention has ended and our trusty Noe V has provided 2 versions of the THUG 2 trailer for your viewing pleasure.

The small version sizes in at 240x180 and is an 11mb download. For those with better connections, check out the larger version. The 320x240 version clocks in at 29Mb but is worth the extra download time IMO.

For those who haven't heard yet, the title of the new game is THUG 2: World Destruction Tour. No specifics whatsoever are known outside of what is shown in the videos, so make your own conclusions. However, once again we're likely looking at an October-ish release date. It boasts a new format in that there are 2 ways to play the game. The Career Mode is now dubbed Team Tony vs Team Bam which suggests you may have the choice of which path to take. Could this mean 2 completely separate career modes? Then there's what's called Classic Mode is the old school goal based mode and this features more than 100 objectives.

The videos show large sprawling levels, as expected...but a lot of big air opportunities as well. You are now allowed to create your own skate team and can actually change members on the fly, an interesting twist. In addition to choosing your own team members, there are 20 unlockable characters ranging from a twisted street vendor to some weird alien types. This is on top of the regular billion create-a-skater options.

Another new feature is the ability to make your own tag and spray paint it....apparently almost anywhere. Additionally you can place stickers around the levels as well. how this plays into the gameplay isn't known, but it's just more that you can do. Oh, and you can throw things as well. The video shows the skater hitting someone in the head with some projectile. Interesting...

New vehicles are present as well and these will now allow you to hit QPs and the like, though only one was shown.

One of the more interesting features is a slow-mo mode. It looks like it may be a replay feature which would be pretty sweet. Pull off a sick move, replay it in slow mo!

Ok, that's an elaborate rundown of what's in the video...take a peek for yourself. I will be posting pics and more thoughts about everything upon my return. Until then, enjoy the movie! [/b]

When Tony Hawk's Underground was released last year, it changed a lot of the basic concepts found in previous Tony Hawk games. Everything from the way you earned stat points to the game's story mode was switched around. Now, Activision and Neversoft are once again reworking the Tony Hawk franchise a bit with its next game, Tony Hawk's Underground 2.

The trailer for THUG2 being shown at E3 bills the product as two games in one. The first is a full-fledged story mode that seems like it will be at least somewhat similar to the original THUG, but the story sounds much more involved. THUG2's story mode will pit Team Hawk against Team Margera in a world destruction tour. Most of the footage showed created skaters hanging out with Bam Margera's team, which appears to include Mike Vallely, Bam's dad Phil, and a character model that looked like one of Bam's Viva La Bam buddies, Ryan Dunn. You'll be able to skate as yourself, just like in the last game, but you'll also be able to switch over to any one of your team members on the fly. So if you've ever wanted to skate as Phil--clad only in his underwear--THUG2 has exactly what you've been looking for.

A lot of the new features shown in the demo play up the world destruction tour aspect of the game. You'll be able to slap stickers onto objects as you do wallplants, you'll be able to throw projectiles at nearby pedestrians, and you'll be able to get off of your board and tag up walls with graffiti. On the skating side of things, you'll have access to something called "slo-mo focus control," which appears to allow you to slow down the action to give yourself a better chance of landing a trick.

You'll be able to recruit pedestrians for your skate team, and this will result in 20 characters to find and enlist. So if you've ever wanted to skate as a hot dog vendor, complete with umbrella and hot dogs, or Ben Franklin, complete with kite, now's your chance. The game also appears to have a collection of costumes. One costume had a skater looking like he was straight out of Oktoberfest. Tony Hawk was spotted rocking a matador outfit, much like he does on the cover of a skate video called The End. Vehicles will also return to the series. One clip showed a person riding on a tricked out Segway-like scooter with flames and pipes.

In addition to the story mode, the game will also have classic mode, which looks like it brings back the two-minute run timer. There will be around 100 unique goals in classic mode, and some of the levels here will be taken from previous games in the series. For example, we noticed the Canada level from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 at one point.

Like Tony Hawk's Underground, THUG2 will allow for plenty of customization. You'll be able to create a skater, goals, parks, tricks, and with the addition of graffiti, your tag. The tag editor appears to work much like the other graphical editors in place for creating your own deck, in that you work with a collection of pre-made graphics and have the ability to layer them as you see fit.

May 12, 2004 - At Activision's booth today, we were denied seeing the next Tony Hawk game (because, once again, we're sniff…lowly online journalists), but the giant video wall told us most of what we needed to know: It's called Tony Hawk's Underground 2: World Destruction Tour, and it looks to expand on all the features from last year's Hawk game, plus it's crystal clear there are several new aspects to the game.

Many folks were split on Tony Hawk's Underground, and Neversoft, as always, listens to its constituency base. This game enables player to do all sorts of new things, such as to graffiti walls, throw objects at people while skating, ride more vehicles, and to sticker walls while tricking on them. Neat. Is that it? Nope.

Fans can select from 20 skaters, including Bam Margera and Tony Hawk to name a few, and they can skate all over the world, including in several European cities such as Spain, Germany, Russia, and more. Like THUG, players can customize a huge assortment of aspects -- moves, characters, parks, goals, and tricks.

Another neat addition is the idea of "Team Bam and Team Hawk," which looks as if Neversoft is giving players another way to play the game, with on the fly switch-able characters in an all-new story mode. The story isn't all that clear just yet, but it looks like your create-a-character is kidnapped and thrown in a van and made to skate all over the world, or some such crazy nonsense.

Giving into the omnipresent Bullet Time idea, Neversoft gives players the control of slowing down time to show special "Focus" sections, honing on the radical nature of your moves. And, from what we can tell, also, players can once again get off their skateboards.

Just watching the video, it's clear the environments are huge. Huge, not just in a square footage way, but in a volumetric manner. Players can drop down from skyscrapers and land 15 or more stories down and pull off their tricks. The amount of height players can get now appears to be pretty unheard of in any previous extreme sports games. Additionally, the amount of interactivity is even greater in Tony Hawk's Underground 2: World Destruction Tour. You can launch cannons and other destructive devices to blow up buildings, giving way to all new areas to skate in the wake of the destruction.

But the real thing about THUG 2 is that Neversoft is returning to its roots. There are supposedly two games in one, with players able to skate through Story mode, or to play in Classic mode, which, as far as we can determine, gives players the chance to skate through levels with the timer on, just like in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1-3. There are more than 100 missions, too. Sheesh. As in the past, we expect this game to appear on Xbox, PS2, GameCube and later on, on PC.

This, all from the video. Again, we didn't play it, we just watched. We do have many questions still left unanswered, such as, will it be online for Xbox? Or, has the off-the-skateboard stuff been improved or altered in any way?

We'll soon know. We'll have more sometime this summer. Until then, it's back to THUG 1.[/quote]
