 i know...here is something useful:

Jasmy, a lot of people have had problems with upgrading operating systems. Usually the best way to go is to format then install from scratch. But because this is an upgrade from xp home to xp pro, and usually the upgrade problems are with drivers, i guess that you won't have those problems.

but just for future knowledge, its always best to format then install. ;)

(just so you know, what i have does not relate to the problem this thread is about)

Another thing for future knowledge, when installing xp and you get the message that says it cannot copy a certain file, at that time you can remove the windows xp cd, and clean it or do something to try to get the file to copy. this might come in handy in the future. :)

I never do upgrades I format then when it ask's for proof I put my win98 or what ever disk in cd-rom then do a clean install . Just my humble opinion . :)

The best idea is not to get XP off the net, I had the exact problem as up when I tried to upgrade. I even tried to reinstall, but XP wouldn't load properly on boot. I tried a legit version and it worked perfectly!

If u asked me, either the pirates did a really shitty job, or someone from M$ tampered w/ the file i d/led

btw, I download the non-working XP off kazaa AND bittorrent, w/ the same result. :(
