how could the percent be at 96%, the total received be at 771, and the total size be at 700? ive received more than the total size  and it says 96%

can someone please explain this?

Not everything you download is useable. Your client checks this and discards bad or unnecessary data. I use Azureus and this shows me how much of the downloaded data has been discarded.

Every download I have done has had more data downloaded than the filesize.

I should stick with it and see if your download completes in %age terms.

I am not familiar with your client but there may be a record somewhere within its options which gives you more info on this.

I think it's quite normal although the amount discarded does look a bit high.

One last thought - I seem to experience more discarded data as I approach the end of a download.

Because it's no frelling use.

Glad it worked and welcome to the wonderful (if slightly flaky) world of Bittorrents!
