Another way to get rid of windows messenger is to get infected by a virus, let it go about on your computer for a few weeks and it's bound to run into it eventually and kill it.

That's how I got rid of it anyway.....along with some other stuff :frusty:

I still see no real need to remove it...just disable it completely in the policy editor

ffs you ppl are retards or what!!!\

trillian and msn messenger have nothing to do with windows messenger

windows messenger is an app that is installed with window xp and 2000 to communicate between comps on a network and for admin type annoucments

learn the difference as this bullshit just confuses ppl

as said b4
to stop windows messenger use this
http://grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm

to kill msn messenger use this

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

some of you ppl should stop just replying to posts just cause you think
you know the answer and leave it to ppl that do

and replacing it with another app like

MSN 6.2 with Messenger Plus owns!
or
trillian

does not fix the user problem, so ffs stfu unless you have the correct answer

You're getting Windows Messenger and the Messenger service confused.
The Messenger service is what you're describing, and It can be disabled through services.msc

Windows Messenger is kind of like...MSN lite. Installed by default on XP.
It can be disabled via policy editor (gpedit.msc) or other means.

but.
anyway.
MSN 6.2 with...oh blah, I already said that.

You don't have to "kill" MSN Messenger. Just uninstall it.
oh. and...

urm i dont think so mate check this

Windows Messenger and messenger service are the same thing

http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup/

windows messenger service is the one that spams you computer

msn messenger is an app that is installed as a 3rd party software along with windows and is used to communicate between ppl over the internet. You can not use msn messenger over a lan without the internet connected

although these 2 can be confused, they are certainly not the same thing

thus refering to msn messenger as windows messenger can and will confuse issues
