I've just lost my visual theme and I think it's because the styleXP trial thing expired, is there any alternative prog where you don't have to pay? ...I can't find a crack that works :unsure:

you can get a UXTHEME.DLL Patch and then you dont need any other tool anymore

The theme patcher (http://www.windowsx.org/enhance/myvs/uxtheme.html) only requires a reboot, and then you can use msstyles themes that are made by regular people and not signed by M$. There are a lot of them out there.

I suggest you use the theme patcher in safe mode as otherwise visual themes do not work properly (you get a black screen with icons on i t??very messed up???)

Go get the new version of windowblinds. It'll let you apply both regular themes that the patch/styleXP would let you use and windowblinds themes.

I'd say that's the best route, because Windowblinds 4 uses the uxpatch.dll that styleXP does, only windowblinds enhances it more so it uses less resources (yes, LESS resources than XP's default skinning engine), plus it has a bunch more features, like toolbar skinning, progress animation skinning, skin animations, and the list goes on.

Uninstall

Install New Version of Style XP

And yes I am using Style XP at this moment so I don't want to hear about it not working.

Unless you have 1GB of FAST memory, do not install WB. This uses more system resources than any program I've ever used :angry:

This is the very reason I switched from WB to StyleXP

I have version 1.0100000. Can I go to the site and upgrade it...my program tells me that I have free updates.

trying to remember if style xp 2.0 is much different than what I have...any probs?

You must have used an old version of windowblinds then. If you have version 4.x and WindowsXP, then a windowblinds theme uses less memory than XP's standard themes. I don't have much memory in this computer right now, and it doesn't slow it down at all.

Even version 3 on Windows ME wasn't a problem. It slowed it down a little, but not much at all.


If you used a pre 3.x version, then yeah, it used a bunch of resources, but otherwise, no way!

I'd say, try it out again. It has so many cool features.

I like Style XP, it's simple to use and has the no system resources option.

I really see no difference in performance with it switched on and there's a shed load of stuff available to download.
