Fst Back Up - Message From Admin

Hi all, well after a long night and tough day we have put the backup up from May 19th. We had backups from just 2 days ago, but there were numerous errors in the backup. I had two of my guys work for several hours trying to make a program to merge two different databases so that we wouldn't loose posts, however this did not work.

We ended up having to go to the May 19th backup. This means all posts made and members who signed up in the last 20 days are gone. I wish we didn't have to do this but we did :-(

For those of you who don't know what happened yesterday, Rip The Jacker, one of the mods here basically went nuts and moved almost all the topics to the trash folder. I have no clue why he has done this, as he was always friendly to me in IM chats I would have with him. If any of you hear an explanation from him about why he did what he did, then please let me know. For now I have banned him from the site.

well, atleast the board is working now...

btw, peerzyboy told me you had 56k internet, and that the file for backups was over 700mb...are these true? I don't think it is possible to upload 700mb in one day with 56k...

edit: i made 500 posts in the last 20 days :o mostly in hardware world!

Yes that is true but I didn't do the work. My server admin and programmers did most of it for me.

This is really a mystery why The Ripper would do such a thing?

Has anyone talked to him and now anything why he did it?

Maybe he might be innocent and got his account hijacked by a hacker who used it or maybe he is in some kind of trouble with the law and was forced to wipe out evidence fast such as posts made on this board I dont know...

Was he just a regular Moderator or a Admin?


If he was just a Mod then it is really strange that he had those kind of abilitys normally moderators only has the ability to remove and lock threads in the areas in which they are responsible for or at best ban a member not acctually make changes to the board itself&#33;.

If that is the case then that should change and only Admins should be able to do stuff like that&#33;.

Will anyone continue to keep working at trying to restore the back up?

The biggest loss is ofcourse the verifieds posted here since may 20 if people that has posted verifieds since May 20 are reading this please post them again&#33;.

i thought 7thE setup a cronjob to backup the forum every week as well.

still these things are always changing and its nice to see there is a fairly recent backup.

I tried doing backups every other day or so, but the problem is that the new backup overrights the older one. So since the backup from 2 days ago was screwed up our next nearest backup was May 19th from our monthly backups.

Anyway i am about to move to a new fully managed server with 4 daily backs every 6 hours.

Yeah i asked error to fix the banner and make it wide screen. I&#39;m not sure what he did for that.

As for the server. Yes the cost will be a bit more, but what i am getting is worth far more then the difference.

he has done a good job and I think we all should be grateful he got it done within 24hrs
