A friend of mine has got a virus on is computer
i don't know which one?
i suggested he go to symantec and do an online virus scan.
to cut a long story short
response was to reformat (XP Home Edition)



Question will Re-formating get rid of a virus ?

Yes is your answer BUT make sure your bootdisc (maybe Cd) is virus free,also check the program files before reloading them it that's where it came from.

Why did they say reformat anyway's ?
Just delate the affecting file and replace if its for the system itself hmm...
Could be on the MasterBootRecord (MBR).

The boot sector is all f'ed up. I had this problem before and the only that worked for me was formatting my hdd. I backed it up first of course. There are topics on this on the micro$oft website.

you can just fix your master boot record through the recovery console you know. there was no need to completely format your drive.

Thanks for the quick response.

I believe it was from an email from friend.

My friends answer to every computer problem.

Reformat.

In this case it seems that it was right.
