- Too Too Solid Flesh (anything that is titled by a line from Shakespeare is kinda iffy...)
- The Silmarilion. I could never get past the first hundred pages or so. Its just poorly constructed.

And that Ben Elton fellow, is he the same one who penned "We Will Rock You?"

For those of you who don&#39;t know, Elton, an avid Queen fan approached Brian May and was all "Hey, let me make a rock opera out of Queen&#39;s Music&#33;" Mr May must&#39;ve been doing some pretty hard drugs because well, it became this plotless piece of shit, with bad vocalists and a wonky set design with a really bizarre premise.

I Hate that bastard. Some of the worst dialouge I&#39;ve ever read.

He is also responsible for some of the wittiest comedic timing (in his sitcom writing) in the world...

Of course it&#39;s badly constructed&#33; The silmarillion is made of fragments pieced together by Christopher Tolkien three years after JRR&#39;s death...

Ben Elton&#39;s books have always been difficult for me to read, he&#39;s not a bad writer it&#39;s just I don&#39;t like being preached to so obviously when I read.

One of the worst books ever is one I was given for my birthday and 3 months later and 86 pages in I have no idea what it is about. It&#39;s called *runs off to find it* The Dreaming Stones by Sarah Harrison and I just cannot get into it at all. I&#39;ve finally given up on it and am reading my first Terry Pratchett book and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

I rate "To Kill A Mockingbird" as my all time favourite book, without question. If I ever have a son I want to call him Jeremy but of course he would be Jem.

the lovely bones I initially hated. but only cos the main characters called Suzanne (my name) and her best friends Kath (my best friends name) and she has blonde hair, blue eyes and anaemia (like moi) and she gets raped and murdered in the first chapter. Freaked me right out.

but now i&#39;ve calmed down a bit i really like it. plus its being made into a movie by peter jackson.

I completely agree, and I second the author but not the book -- which is to say The Hobbit was the least painful for me, in that it took only two tries to get through it.

The Trilogy proper was a nightmare. It took me three tries to get through "The Fellowship" (the trip on the way to, and then the exchange with Tom Bombadil [sp?] was enough to make me puke), and then, after several tries to get through the Two Towers (I died on the trip through the Dead Marshes -- the irony), I gave up totally on the series. Easily some of the worst, most boring material I&#39;ve ever read in fantasy -- I&#39;m astonished at the hype. I know Tolkien was writing specifically for children, but sheesh...
