too much is bad.

Apply a veryyy thing layer to the core itself..Smooth it out with a credit card and make it about 2 pieces of paper thick i guess.

On the heatsink rub in a good amount of thermal paste all over the bottom of the heatsink and then rub off the excess to where you cant really see it nemore on the heatsink..then apply the heatsink to the cpu and ur good.

For AMD cpu's there's the grain of rice method, where you apply a "blob" half the size of a grain of rice, and use a credit card to smooth it over. works very well
For P4 or others, I imagine you would need more, due to the bigger core

actually, teh core is same size as an amd one, maybe a little different, but the top part u see is the heat spreader, not teh core.

Really, on a P4, all u gotta do is put it in the middle of this heatspreader and thin it out, don't need to worry about the edges too much.

at www.arcticsilver.com (http://www.arcticsilver.com) there is a guide on how to put the thermal paste on, i forgot to post this in my first post.

They are all like that, it's hard to spread. Just needs a bit of work.

Putting on teh heatsync will amke it spread anyway, don't worry.

I've never done it this way before, so I thought I'd try it to see if it brought my temps down.

Now no-one will take my credit card.
