umm I don't wanna pay for a gamepad so I'm gonna turn my xbox controller into one. But I don't own a soldering iron (or solder,) is there an alternative to using one of those? A lighter? And where do I get solder? Ace maybe?

in case you're interested, here's a guide I found:

http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbox-usb-xbox-cable.php

I hope it works out, I love that controller.

You don't need to solder, just use electrical tape. Cut the short section of the Xbox controller's cable and splice it together with a standard USB cable, matching up the same colored wires. Then you just need to install this driver so your PC will recognize it...

you're right, but I cannot play euro 2004 with my POS $4 dollar keyboard (it really was 4 dollars.) The keys keep cancelling each other out, and NFSU was built to use a steering wheel, and I can't afford one (although I want one for TOCA.)

and nightwolf thanks, that's what I needed to hear :D.

Gepper...BF is a mouseboard/joystick game, I am the green baron on forgotten hope, too bad its hard to find servers nowdays, everyone playing that vietnam crap, my helicopter skills got worn down by the n00bness of the bfv physics (DC is more realistic-ish flying choppers.)

this was a successful post. B) :01:

now someone lock it before it goes to hell

You don't cut the actual cord, just the little extension at the end which is a seperate piece. You can probably get a used one for less than 10 bucks.

p.s. If the above driver doesn't work, here's another one you can try...

I have not done anything yet...but gamestop is right next to radioshack (I gotta pick up a usb cord, no mice to chop over here ) so I'll check for the converter first, if I find it I'll buy it, if I don't I'll go for the constructive option, thanks again nightwolf, and twister :D.

update:

I could not find an adapter at gamestop or radioshack (overpriced fucks,) so I opted to buy an usb cable and some electrical tape, radioshack wanted 21 dollars for a 3ft usb cable , I said fuck that, so I went to this place called daiei (sort of walmart in hawaii,) the same cable was there for $5.49 :o. and some electrical tape for .99 cents. By the way stripping those tiny wires was HARD. Anyways it worked, and it worked "well," but now i'm having alot of trouble getting any software to recognize it, other than windows and the driver package. A weird thing is that I can navigate the menus in euro 2004, but I cannot play or get it to recognize it (euro won't even recognize my joystick.)

I tried NFSU with less luck than euro, If anyone knows how to use XBCD properly (maybe i'm doing something wrong) please say something :D.

I'm just glad it worked, now just to get it to "work."

Good news everyone!: the controller works with all flash games I've tried (JoyToyKey emulator) and it works with simpson's hit n' run, euro 2004 is a whore...I'm still tryin', never dyin'!

the whole point of this excercise was to avoid paying for a gamepad (instead I spent 7 bucks and got a magnificent rumble-infused xbox pad on my pc)

It now works on all my games, but euro 2004 is retarded about it, at least it works, we scored our first goal (GOL!) over here . With the keyboard it's impossible <_<.

Anyways I highly recommend this to anyone willing to try it, the xbox pad whoops ass, and I can swap it with any type of xbox pad I want (the trip-wire B))

Analog sticks are the stupidest thing I have ever seen for FPS, most third person shooters, and strategy in any form.

For sports games you need a gamepad, for FPS keyboard / mouse the only way to play.

If you wanted to get a xbox-usb converter you can go to Lik Sang (http://www.lik-sang.com), its in Honk Kong so it will take a while but they have all kinds of random stuff.

Excellent! I'm really glad it worked for you! Now the question is, did you ever find a replacement for your short cord so you can still use it with your Xbox? I'm pretty sure they have used ones at EB Games if there's one in your area.

Do I HAVE to use an usb extension cable, OR could i just take an old usb wire i dont need and cut the thing and have and use it instead? Also, will this work on usb 1.1 or does it need to be 2.0?

Tormentor

HOLY SHIT! IT WORKED! All i did was take an old usb cable, cut it in half, did same to xbox cable, matched the colors, duct tapes them together  Plugged it in, installed drivers and it now workes like a dream. Took me under 5 mins.

:mrburnsexcellent:

aye! that's how it's done m8!

you can even play flash games with it (joytoykey emulator) it's really cool. Although you're supposed to use electrical tape I'm glad it worked for you.

Yo, I've been tryin at this for quite some time. I got the cables together, got windows to find it, the drivers are install, but now it says the device cannot start.
Retarded windows, Tried on two different controllers and same result.

Any help is great.
