I tried this about a year and a half ago. I didn't really find much of interest to me at the time because it is suited more for small files.

You have to use a program called frost(I think that's what it was) and allocate a portion of your hard drive for it's use.

The program works by taking bits and pieces of the files in your shared folder and sending them to random people. Those bits get stored on their allocated space in encrypted form. The same thing happens to their shared stuff. You get bits and pieces from various people in encrypted form. You never know what you have in this space.

This is what is supposed to save you. You can say you didn't know it was on your computer because it was actually put there by someone else. You are just a storage receptacle.

I had 2 problems with it. First, as I said it is not made for large files. The userbase isn't large enough yet to effectively split up movie files to the various people and most people do not seem to allocate enough space on their drives. The more space people give, the better the files can be spread giving better speeds. When I tried it, you could do music files ok but not really anything bigger.

The main reason I stopped using it was because it had a high ratio of child porn on it. It had a small user base and of course all the pedos hang out there for the security reasons.

I know it is all over filesharing, but it was too much for me. Maybe when the userbase gets bigger(which could be now) and there are more regular files.

Seems like a good idea when it gets bigger.

Thanks to the child pornography laws, that excuse doesnt work. If your caught with it no matter how it got there, your ass is grass unless you can hire a good lawyer who can convence a jury otherwise. :01:

Hello!

The problem is that the content on your HD becomes encrypted so you nor the Police cant read it and see if there is Child Porn in there. So Freenet is a big problem for the law enforcement.

Freenet is fucking slow and none of the pages work all the time.

Well if eveyone switched to freenet and allocated at least a few gigs of space then it could be pretty damn good. Has what we want, just needs speed and files. It won't get that unless we all switch :P

Your harddrive doesnt become encrypted. Just the freenet files. And encryption can be broken.

Exactly. I only managed to get the Al-Queda in North America site working. Seeing that couldnt find key error pissed me off so much I wanted to go on a murderous rampage. But instead I fell asleep and dreamed I was in school overnight and 2 small tornados his just as the bus started driving away.

I already mirrored a copy of the page in my Whos Paul Johnson topic. Thats all the page had. Some plain text and 3 images of some guy decapitated.
