I know the pics are quite terrible, so no need for complaining about that, but here are some pics of my modded 9600XT.
I promised a few people to show them some pics, so I dug up a very old webcam and took these horrid quality pics, but you can at least get the idea!

http://img48.photobucket.com/albums/v147/kaiweiler/gpu1.jpg

And last but not least, the results!

http://img48.photobucket.com/albums/v147/kaiweiler/gputemp.jpg

The 28C is while running all day today including a bit of gaming, and also the card is OC'ed, not bad if I do say so myself!

That's awsome, how did you get the ramsinks that match the heatsink? thats cool.

I took my time and looked around :P
I'll see what I can do, I may have to take out the card for that, so I'll be 2 mins tops :)

EDIT just remembered I don't have an old graphics card to use to take the pic while my card is out, so I can take pics, but they sure won't be good lol

That what you wanted?

The clips are just like a kind of pushpin type thing.

are they just the normal type of pin you use to hold the stock heatsink on? or are they differnt?

i still can't really tell what they are...and where did those loops come from on the side of the heatsink, did you weld those on or something?

kaiweiler
06-21-2004, 07:31 PM
Yes, I welded those loops on, did a fine job too

and yeah the clips are almost identical to the stock ones, mine are just a bit longer then the ones I had with the stock heatsink.

ok well now atleast i know what to do. Maybe next (school) year I will be able to do welding in my tech classs again and i could weld that...which welder did you use? all the ones at my school would probably have melted at least a little bit of that metal before the loops were secured on...lol.

kaiweiler
06-21-2004, 07:49 PM
 Sorry for the misunderstanding but I did not weld those on! notice the " " smiley, as in I was joking ;)
If you were to weld those on there would be no clips left at all, that metal is quite thin and would melt near instantly.
I used this cement type stuff. It comes in two tubes and when the two components are mixed, it becomes rock solid

Radeon cards do have temp readers!
9600XT and 9800XT only right?

Currently ATI OVERDRIVE™ is supported on the ATI RADEON™ 9800 XT and ATI RADEON™ 9600 XT retail products. On the Graphics By ATI products supplied by ATI's Add In Board Partners the availability of OVERDRIVE is at the discretion of the partner. Please refer to the website of your graphic card manufacturer for details.

Correct, the 9600XT and 9800XT cards have temp sensor's in them :)
Don't think 9800np's or 9800pro's do though

Umm, ya i think ill mod it, cause then ill need one less fan, meaning system will be quieter, ot maybe that fan can get put to better use.

ahh I see
Yeah I heard that the 5200 OC's surprisingly well, so if you get a good cooler on that, you may get a decent OC out of it too

Perhaps now that you've seen how it goes you'll get SERIOUS about your cooling.

This is the first rig to break 100,000 in Aquamark using a nVidia card.
Somewhere in there is a videocard, I assume.

More details here. (http://arc.aquamark3.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3259)

K,
The fan on your GPU HS does not appear to have access to outside air.
Yes?
That would explain why your temp is so high.

Normally I have a duct on it running out my PCI slots, however I had to remove it to take the pics ;)
and 28C is not that high for an OC'ed card I don't think, what is your 9600xt running at?

Of course not.
I have a Zalman passive heatpipe cooler on the card and a 120mm fan on the sidepanel blowing over it.

and the fact that my card used to run high 30's, usually about 37-38, I'm quite happy with a nice cool 28C! :P

they made it a five star system instead of 3 stars. Look in This thread (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=22373) to see how it works now.
