West Pier victim of summer storms

The latest collapse comes after two fires hit the pier in 2003
Storms battering the south coast have caused another part of the West Pier in Brighton to fall into the sea.
The remains of the concert hall on the Victorian structure, which survived two fires and previous gales, fell into the sea on Wednesday afternoon.

The Grade I listed pier, built in 1866 but closed to the public in 1975, is one of two piers in Brighton.

The latest collapse means the ballroom is isolated in the sea after being cut off from the rest of the pier.

'Always vulnerable'

The area was cordoned off by coastguard officials to ensure people's safety as gales continued to lash the former tourist attraction.

Rachel Clark, from the West Pier Trust, said: "It (the concert hall) was always vulnerable but what we never expected was that we would have such a severe storm at the height of summer so we have been caught off-guard."

The pier was first battered by storms in January 2003 when sections fell into the sea.

A fire in March 2003 then ripped through the structure stripping much of it down to its metal skeleton. A second fire then hit the pier in May.

The West Pier Trust has continued to fight to restore the West Pier despite the Heritage Lottery Fund removing £14m it had allocated towards its restoration.

English Heritage had also said it wanted to save the pier and was proposing to put fresh plans in place in September.

Why......???

Did he live on that pier???

found it:

A deeply appealing comedy, Brighton Beach Memoirs captures the challenges of the Great Depression with enormous spirit, dignity, and vigor. You may even recognize someone from your own family as Eugene and the other members of his household grow to learn that life - at once humorous and poignant - is something to celebrate.

Yes, it would appear that the lovable rogue has finally got the message, and is to leave the country. Jim Davidson has confirmed that he will be leaving Britain for good and will be emigrating to a life amongst sand and camels in Dubai.

Davidson has had a string of difficulties in the UK in recent years. His controversial comic-style and professional mannerisms have brought growing criticisms throughout the comedy industry press (ed - but we're not sorry), most recently culminating in him refusing to perform at a gig because there were disabled people in the front row of the audience. This comes on top of growing financial difficulties in which unpaid taxes brought him close to bankruptcy in 2003.

In a recent interview with Des O'Connor, Davidson said: "I just want a change and I never thought I'd get to that stage. I'm going to live in the desert and I can't come back. I can go to Dubai and start again. I could change my religion to Muslim and have four wives. Mind you I'd have four mothers-in-law if I did that."

Before he leaves, Davidson has confirmed that he will record four standup shows for television.

He left 13 of march...........

So the pier decided it was time to go too..........

SO SAAAAAD!!!!!!

I think the concert hall bit at the end is still there, I think they still plan to restore (I mean rebuild!!!) it. It's still got Grade 1 listed building status..
