Bittorrent is a problem for me, I'm on ADSL and my local telecommunications monopoly have imposed a 3 gig download/upload cap on all DSL connections, If I were to download something that's a gig, I'd have to upload alot to get decent download speeds, which means I'd upload another gig or 2, which means my cap is gone in a day!

To make sure you're not paying DOUBLE or even TRIPLE bandwidth costs, set your max upload rate in BitTorrent to considerably below your connection's max upload bandwidth.

Otherwise, the overloads will result in dropped data that must be resent -- but your ISP still counts those dropped data packets against your MAX bandwidth limit!

Oh they don't charge me extra, they just slow me down to 16kbps...

Yes, that's basically nothing.

Oh they don't charge me extra, they just slow me down to 16kbps...I didn't mean 2x the $'s per month, I meant if you were trying to download something on BitTorrent and your upload tries to briefly exceed your connection's rated capacity. Your ISP will DROP/lose/delete ALL upload packets beyond the stated limit per second and possibly count those 'lost' packets against your daily/monthly limit.

So in short you end up paying for bandwidth you don't even get to use!
