What exactly does this do? My monitor was currently set on 60hz, but then i changed it to 85 hz, and things became more aliased. I'm not sure which is better, higher, or lower?

higher is better, aparatnly to an extent (never did find this extent with my monitors  ).

Around 75-100 is apparantly best ;)

It makes the moinitor refresh faster, reducing, umm, flicker it hink it is called, and it is better, doesn't make u sickk and stuff, gives me headahces when it is really low.

I see, but it gives me a headache when its higher? So it is like a flourescent light? How they flicker like 1million times a second? And when some people can see that, they get head aches?

Well my monitor is a Plug and Play monitor, and Intel, and other companies made these monitors user-friendly, so they only give you the refresh rates that are most compatible for your operating system, how the graphics card and monitor communicate, so i set mine to 85hz, and i guess i will just have to get used to it. I dont know what the problem is, i made a post about this a long time ago, but for some reason different shades of grey, just show up as black. So when i want to make a certain font a color, and that little winow pops up, to pick the colors, the different shades of colors, are the same color. Such as the different shades of black. And it is hard to see some movies and pictures because all i can see its mostly black, and some dark figures, whereas with my friend's PC's, you can see them just fine. Argh, maybe my graphics card is just worn out. The colors, contrast, and brightness are all the way up on my monitor. :frusty:

I remember that post, ya sounds like it is either a graphics driver problem (they have brightness and stuff in their config) or it is ur monitor... ;)

Lower I think would give you a headache . What does your moniter support ? In display properties , check hide modes this moniter can't display . Last thing you want to do is HOOP your moniter . I have a top of the line VIEWSONIC PRO set at 85 no problems. But I'm older with eye troubles .

There is no brightness configuration on my graphics controller, anywhere. My monitor supports 60hz, 70hz, 72hz, 75hz, and 85 hz, and it doesnt look like there arent any modes it doesnt support because i unticked "Hide modes that this monitor does not support", hit apply, and checked, and there were still the same refresh modes. My graphics card is an Intel® 82810E Graphics Controller. It is integrated.Grr 4mb. So i dont know. My resolution is 800x600 because my mom can't see anything when it is 1024x 768. Right now it says "800x600, True Color (24 Bit) 85 hz. I can't have High color with 24 bit. Which is better? True color? Or High color? I need to find drives so i can update.hmm :frusty:

Man, too many numbres

My computer only has two color settings:
medium (16bit)
highest(32bit)

and if i uncheck the "modes this monitor cannot display, i get to choose from:
Lowest (8bit)
medium (16bit)
highest(32bit)

;) not sure that helps u at all lol.

and my refresh rate, with a resolution of 1252x864, is 75hz (highest monitor goes). at 1024x768 i use 85hx, and at 800x600 (rare) i use 100hz.

Had to laff about the mom bit . My kids bug me too about the 800x600 . But if you increase the font size for Mom you can have the best of both worlds . :)

noth of you, upgrade to a 17" monitor. It will make you and your kids happy. Now my dad can't stand to be near anything smaller than 17" lol.

my dad used to be like you and your mom to teh other guy, always used 800x600, i used 1024x768...now we both are happy at 1152x864.

Don't know where i would be with a 15" monitor...probably have commited suice long ago. ;)

I cant stand it at 800 x 600 and dont have the money to upgrade. You should see it though, I have to pull the cord around the monitor tightly so the video feed wont go out. And the screen is offset about half an inch and I dont feel like fixing it.

I did have an 17" monitor.....but anyways, my friend gave me this game about ants for my birthday, and we couldnt play it because my monitor was so dark :( so his brother gave me his 2nd monitor, and now it work's perfectly, and my mom agreed to let me put the resolution at 1024!!! :P

haha, i have a 15", 800x600 @ 56Hz

give me a real headache when behind it to long, luckily that doesnt happen 2 often........ anyway u should be able to set it to 85Hz at least, more is better for your eyes, but lessens the life of your monitor

click here for more info on monitors.......... (http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/20011128/index.html)
