I would appear it removes those languages from XP knowledge so it wont be able to convert to english.

Indexing service speeds ups searches when you use windows search thing.
I suggest you serioulsy disable it to speed up yourr pc
and if you wanna do Ultra Fast searches for files etc then either use:

X1 (very good, super fast, simple-file searcher)
DTSearch Desktop (more advanced)

sorry no link

You guys all (except for singaboiy) think im an idiot...i have it disabled, it was a part i added to my guide, saying it should be removed. I know exactly what it does, only reason I am asking if it is "uninstallable (not disabled, i ahve it disabled) is becuase when i went to uninstall it i got that error message (in my first post) which is why i am unsure if i should take it off or not....

There is no need to go overboard with xp lite.

In regard to the indexing service I would just disable it rather than remove it completely. I never liked the built in search with xp and it never seemed any faster with indexing enabled.

ooohkay now i remember -
goto add remove progrms - then - addremove windows components-unmark indexing
yes i removed it long time ago - no problems after some months
i did it because of some speed up tweak from one of sharedholders sites.
its posted here in sftwrwrld - under title 99 ways to speed up windows
now do you expect me to go thru the 99.....

I know it is unneeded, but recently i started to replace all mirosoft crap (apart from teh OS and explorer) so i thought i'd also remove the old stuff. I had problems after uninstalling windows media player, so had to put it back on :(

indexing is gone, computer works, im happy. ;)

never works for me that way, i've tried it way back, and tried it again today, doesn't work. Always asks me for a disc called "Messenger"...i can't figure out what disc it wants, i've tried my XP discs, tried my security update cd.

Oh well, don't bother answering, i don't need it anymore.

Why even use the crap if you have to butcher it up before it's ready for "good" use? Get a good distro of Linux and it will probably work well right out the box.
