Install the drivers for your modem.

Wait a minute.
Where does XP report the modem is a printer?

Try going into device manager, then right click the modem, go to update driver, and see if you can find a better driver in windows itself, if not cancel and download a driver somewhere on teh net (manufacturer's website is probably best).

Is teh modem working?

the modem is working fine. Since I can use it on my other computer. The PC reports it as a new printer when i A)Scan for new hardware B) Automatically detects it. I found all the drivers except that I cannot install it because I need to have it detected as a modem before installing.

When you go to device manager it should show it as a device with a ! or a ? next to it. Right click, go to update driver, and point to the driver you downloaded.

you could also try plugging into a different USB port. ;)

It doesn't matter, that is just how you install drivers. ;)

Then you've probably got the wrong drivers.

They won't support it if you are using compatible ink carts though. ;)
